Not just 100 years old, but 100 years of passion for the natural world.

No man has been more influential in educating the human population about the glory of nature and the solemn duty we have to protect it. This is but a small tribute to a great man.

Thank you, Sir David Attenborough, for everything that you have given.

A CHRISTMAS POEM for the poorly-organised! šŸŽ„šŸŽ…šŸ¼šŸŽ
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
’Twas the night before Christmas and all through the town,
A poor soul was panicking, gloomy and down!
The stockings were hung, the mince pies were set,
But one crucial gift had not been bought yet.
No present was purchased, no ribbon, no wrap,
A recipe, sure, for a long winter’s nap…
Out in the doghouse, with nary a bone,
Spending the New Year all chilly, alone.
A cold sweat was forming, the clock ticking fast—
ā€œIn trouble for months if this Christmas is passed!ā€
A vision of tutting, deep sighs in the air,
With doom and dismay and a partner’s cold stare.
But lo—what’s that light in the digital haze?
Such glorious paintings, a bright festive blaze!
In a flash, a selection—so vibrant, divine—
A masterpiece clicked, ā€œThis one’s surely mine!ā€
With delivery swift and a sly cheeky grin,
Disaster is dodged—let the merriment begin!
One needn’t have panicked about what to buy,
So have some more eggnog and one more mince pie!
Now, if this is you in a Christmas Eve fix,
Picturing life as you dodge flying bricks,
Just visit the website – you just never know,
This might be the birth of a Yuletide hero!
It's all in the movement...
I'm often asked why I don't paint landscapes. It's a tricky question, especially as contemporary landscapes are often the pieces I'm drawn to when visiting art shows and galleries.
But for me, the goal is movement.
Even when the subject is stationary, the act of teasing 'life' from the canvas with energetic mark-making is what really satisfies me creatively. Often times, as with this piece, it's a puzzle. Weaving the subject, or parts of the subject, between geometric interruptions raises constant questions about which takes priority. The aim is for it to settle out where no single element is 'arguing' with another. It must feel balanced, despite the fleeting nature of the movement that is being captured.
There is A LOT of head scratching. If I were to show you the unedited footage of these timelapse videos you'd be bored to tears of me staring at the piece trying to visualise where to take it. This is usually when I start tucking into a cinema-sized box of Maltesers - definitely NOT the lighter way to enjoy chocolate when you polish off the box in an hour!
You can sometimes see me change my mind and remove a line or a particular colour because it's just not working... but that's all part of the journey.
Would a landscape invite the same complexity? Urban landscapes - perhaps...? But to get the best out of your own art, you just have to go with your gut.
**Royal Flush!**
What an incredible three weeks it's been since the London exhibition finished earlier this month. I took a few days to myself before unpacking the show kit and resetting the studio ready for visitors... and sure enough, another 4 paintings have sold, including the biggest in the new collection - "Here Come the Girls" - www.hannahshergold.com/artwork/here-come-the-girls.
The total fundraising for Tusk for 2025 alone, including the £16,000 raised by my turtle at the Tusk Turtle Trail auction at The Shard earlier this month, now sits at a whopping £119,000! I'm chuffed to bits with this, and it continues to creep up as more paintings are secured post-show.
If there's one thing I fell behind on, it was putting together the timelapse videos of each piece. The quest for higher quality footage led to having to learn a whole new piece of Adobe software and format circa 9000 images PER PAINTING into a one minute film. Needless to say, most of the films only just made it into the exhibition display, but the plus side is I can now share them with you good people!
And so here is "Royal Flush", for your viewing pleasure! Let me know what you think in the comments. Available to view at my studio in Wi******er by appointment - please DM to enquire.
What a ride!!
Still processing the absolute awesomeness of last week. The exhibition, the preview night, the auction… the SIXTY-FIVE THOUSAND POUNDS raised for just from the sale of Ronnie’s portrait…
This deserves 65,000 thank-yous to the unstoppable . From the outset, truly generous in just saying ā€œyesā€ when I asked him back in November 2024 if he’d participate in one of my crazy ideas. Giving up his precious days off from recording with to sit for me at his home… and giving me such a wonderful tour of his home with its decades of art and memorabilia… a true privilege.
This video was put together by the incredible at our first sitting, capturing and documenting this once in a lifetime experience for me and working her creative magic. I can’t wait to work with her again in the future x
You can see the rest of the 2025 Collection at the link in the bio. Each painting sees 10% of the proceeds donated to Tusk. It’s been a phenomenal year, and I’m proud to say that this is the best collection yet.
