Christmas Opening Times: We are planning on being open every day between Saturday 27th December 2025 and Sunday 4th January 2026. However, this is dependent on the availability of our wonderful volunteer stewards.
If you would like to become a volunteer at the museum, please contact us at [email protected]. It is a great opportunity to meet and talk to our visitors and find out more about what goes on in the background to keep the museum running.

We have recently updated our family area with a display telling the Sutton Hoo story. We also have some new stories about Woodbridge where you can vote for your favourite one.

Our current temporary displays are about ship building in Woodbridge from the 1600s telling you about the ship builders and where ships for the navy were built. There is also a brief history of the ‘Lady Alice Kenlis’ and how she ended her days on the banks of the River Deben.,

There is also the story of the ‘Thomas’, a billy boy barge that was built in and traded from Woodbridge in the mid 1800s. You may be surprised when you see where she delivered her cargoes.

Friends of Woodbridge Museum Spring Talks in 2026 will be starting in the New Year. Please add the dates to your diaries.

OVER PAID, OVER SEXED AND OVER HERE: THE AMERICAN AIR FORCE IN EAST ANGLIA 1942 – 1944
Geoffrey Kay talks about the American Airforce in East Anglia. In May 1942 the first aeroplanes of the Eighth US Army Air Force arrived. With them came air and ground crew of American GIs who, by 1944, outnumbered the local population, sometimes by fifty to one. Half of the US Army Air Force’s casualties in WW2 were suffered by Eighth Air Force in East Anglia – 47,000 casualties and 26,000 dead. How was this ‘friendly invasion’ received by local people in East Anglia? What was the experience of those young Americans who found themselves at war in our region?
