Step into Northumberland’s illicit whisky past.

Through sound, imagery, and storytelling, become immersed in the hidden world of illicit whisky-making as you move through a series of spaces on site.

Discover how hidden stills operated across the hills, how whisky was transported under the cover of darkness, and how the landscape protected its makers.

Along the way, guests experience three whisky moments that trace the full story of the spirit. It begins with a tasting of new make spirit, offering a raw insight into whisky at its earliest stage, directly from the still.

The experience continues with our carefully crafted Tácnbora, marking the first chapter of Northumberland’s modern whisky story.

The journey concludes in Bēodern with a final dram served with a traditional ram’s horn, alongside a simple Drovers Dish inspired by the food once carried along historic travelling routes.

New exhibit now on display.

The Etal Hand Pin - A small object with a very big story.

The Etal Hand Pin dates from around 300–500 AD, an early medieval silver piece once used to fasten a cloak across the chest.

Known as a proto-hand pin, its distinctive ringed head predates the more familiar hand pins that followed, offering a glimpse into the evolution of this unique design.

It’s a quiet but powerful link to Northumbria’s past, where everyday objects carried meaning and identity in equal measure.

The museum is free to enter, so you can take your time and explore. Come and see it for yourself.

Happy World Whisky Day 🥃

Tácnbora isn’t just a whisky, it’s a journey that keeps evolving.

Our Tácnbora Northumbrian Blended Whisky begins life as a carefully crafted blend, designed around balance and smoothness. But that’s just the starting point.

From there, it becomes a canvas for exploration through a series of limited-edition cask finishes, each one showing how different woods and wine styles can transform the whisky in unique ways.

Each release takes the same core spirit and sends it in a new direction:

• Ex-Islay Cask Finish – added subtle peat smoke and coastal character, a nod to bold maritime influence.

• Cognac Cask Finish – brought richness, dried fruit, and gentle spice layered over Tácnbora’s natural sweetness.

• Sauternes Cask Finish – introduced honeyed stone fruit, apricot, and a soft dessert-like depth.

These releases have found their place in the Tácnbora story, and they didn’t stay around for long.

For now, there is the newest chapter:

• Port Cask Finish – a rich, warming expression where fortified wine casks bring deep fruit character, soft sweetness, and a velvety, rounded finish that sits beautifully on top of the original blend.

Each edition is small-batch and time-led, not rushed, not repeated, but carefully released as part of an ongoing exploration of what Tácnbora can become.

Together, they don’t replace each other, they build a collection.
A series of flavour journeys, each telling a different story through cask influence, while still staying rooted in the same Northumbrian blend.

Tácnbora is the standard bearer of Ad Gefrin, and these limited editions are the paths it takes as it leads the way forward

World Cocktail Day calls for something smooth, bold, and unmistakably Northumbrian.

A little reminder of one of our favourite serves, the Tácnbora Hi-Ball. Crisp ginger ale, honey syrup, bitters, and the signature character of Tácnbora whisky.
