An artist’s eye isn’t a hidden talent - it’s just a practice of looking deeper and never losing your curiosity. From rain-heavy cobwebs to vibrant hedgerow rose hips, nature is full of stories waiting to be noticed.

Barnaby: British Hazel Dormouse

The hazel dormouse is Britain’s only native dormouse, with golden-brown fur, large dark eyes and a long, bushy tail. From October to April, it hibernates curled into a ball beneath leaves, moss or fallen logs.
This painting grew from a feeling I know well in winter: the longing to curl up and hibernate. The swan’s feather, gathered from an empty nest while the swans were out on the water, represents the comfort of snuggling beneath a feather duvet.
Somewhere within the artwork, I have hidden a heart. It may be easy to spot—or it may take a little longer to find.

I love old books. Do you? After visiting Exmoor recently, I was given a thoughtful present - an old leather bound copy of Lorna Doone. It made me question have we lost something by going digital? Books, not just the stories they hold, are works of art too. I have written a blog post all about my little old book collection, my experience of having a bookbinder father and my gorgeous present. I'd love to know what your thoughts are about old books and digitalisation.

Wildwood Arts has entered a new chapter.

After many years as a Dartmoor gallery, Wildwood Arts has been reshaped into the creative home of Cheri Hunston — artist, illustrator, writer , nature storyteller and educator.

I will now be sharing my artwork, illustration, writing, teaching, limited editions, art cards, journal posts and studio news here.

Thank you to everyone who has supported Wildwood Arts over the years. This new chapter feels exciting, and I am very grateful to share it with you.

Come and join us for a celebratory and farewell exhibition! I’ve thoroughly enjoyed creating and running my own gallery, but after 9 years, I have decided that it’s time for something new.
It’s the start of a new exciting chapter for me and time to focus on my own creativity and teaching.
The gallery will be closing as a general gallery, but I’ll retain part of the premises for teaching and my own art.
So, to say farewell to the wonderful artists I’ve represented over the years, I’m having a final exhibition. To say thank you to our fabulous customers, the artists are reducing their prices for the weekend.
We hope to see you!

Preview Fri May 1st. 5.30-8.30pm. Open Sat, Sun,Mon 10.30am- 4pm.

Our doors close 4pm on the 4th of May.
