Reopening Saturday 7 November!

All clubs will continue as normal but the gallery and bookshop will be closed while we prepare to launch a brand new gallery programme in November.

Opening Saturday 7 November 'Seven Decades of Printmaking' with artist Brian Rice, as we are thrilled to welcome him back to our gallery in Yeovil.

This is the start of an exciting range of exhibitions through 2027 into 2028 as we bring art and culture into everyday life.

Community Bulb Planting - Glovers Walk! 🌷🌱🪏

You are invited to join us for this lovely event at Glovers Walk in the October half term!

Friday 30 October 11am-2pm

Free Event!

All you need to do is come along, dig in and you’re taking part.

The event is supported by Adam Dance MP and Brimsmore Garden Centre as we work together with our amazing partners and town board through the Yeovil Reimagine project.

We are excited to bring people together for this communal planting event, it will be a great chance for us to plant together and then reconnect in the spring at the Glovers Walk site as all the flowers and colour appear in the new year.

We can’t wait to dig in and bring colour to this site in town!

Our lovely team at Yeovil Art Space! Pictured here back in July, on the opening night of the Yeovil Creatives Annual Exhibition.

You will find this lovely lot here in the charity’s art gallery where we have inspiring exhibitions, creative workshops and drop-ins. We run art clubs for all ages, and a fabulous second hand bookshop. Welcome to all!

We can also be found 'out and about' bringing our artists and creativity to events run by partners and fellow organisations in Yeovil; like Pride, SuperSaturday, Home Farm Fest and much more.

As we continue with our current funded project 'Yeovil Reimagine' we have an amazing programme of exhibitions in the gallery for the next 2 years, as well as ways to get involved with us around town, as we 'bring art and culture into every day life!'

If you want to come along to our Drink and Draw workshops and see what we get up to, we have two sessions coming up on Wednesday:

Bring your friends, meet new people, come to this lovely social event and enjoy the opportunity to be creative alongside others.

✨Location: Ground Floor, Yeovil Art Space
✨By all means 'B.Y.O.B' but teas and coffees will also be available.
✨ No previous experience required.

We will provide a drawing theme or activity for the evening which will be lead by an experienced artist.

Perfect for beginners or practising artists looking to refresh your practice and connect with others, the sessions are welcome to all.

Drawing materials will be provided but you are welcome to bring your own if you wish; dry media, sketchpads, tablets etc.

N E W E X H I B I T I O N !

Yeovil Art Space is delighted to work with internationally known artist Brian Rice again this Autumn.

This time, the exhibition focuses on his printmaking works spanning 70 years.

Born in Yeovil, Rice grew up in Tintinhull and Montacute. His career began at Yeovil School
of Art, which Rice attended from 1952-6. His artistic talent was clearly shown early on in the wood-engraving entitled ‘Rare Breed’. He subsequently created work in lithography and
relief printing.

In the 1960s, Rice was at the heart of the London art scene, producing some of the era’s most groundbreaking paintings and prints, predominantly screenprints but also a series of lithographs. His work reflected the fashion of its time and was frequently seen in the background to magazine adverts and several films. One early screenprint, ‘Red Assembly’,
printed for him by Ward Studios of Yeovil, is now in the Tate Gallery Collection along with three more of Brian's prints which will be included in the YAS show.

Geometric pattern and strong colour continued in Rice’s work during 1970. Visitors will see 'Nine in One' (pictured), an assembly of nine colour system prints measuring over 6 ft tall, the largest print work Rice has ever produced.

✨ Wellbeing Art Club at Yeovil Art Space! ✨

We have shared such fun and laughter over the first two weeks of Wellbeing Art Club starting back up for the colder months. We started simple with making surrealist collages out of old magazines which challenged our way of looking at things and how we can utilise what we deem ordinary to be extraordinary.

Sometimes we will be ‘collaging ourselves into a corner’ but then one of us will find ‘a Dalmatian dog to stick to a mountain’ and everything will be alright again! (See if you can spot the Dalmatian 👀)

Each stage of the task encourages our participants to move in their own way and own pace to create their surreal artworks. A very mindful and chatty couple of mornings to help turn days around for the better.

Yeovil Reimagine Launch!

We would like to share our deepest thanks to everyone who came to support the launch of this very special project in Yeovil on Friday night.

We felt very grateful to see so many of our friends and supporters gathered, the atmosphere was wonderful with a real buzz in the air, plenty of conversation and creativity, with food and drink supplied by local businesses. We had some truly inspiring speeches from Phil Gibby the Arts Council England Area Director for the South West and Adam Dance MP for Yeovil as we look to the cultural development and regeneration of Yeovil.

Somerset Council and Arts Council England have brought together £400,000 for this project which Yeovil Art Space deliver with the Yeovil Town Board.

Yeovil Reimagine has been going for a few months now and you will have seen our project artists in events at Westlands, Ninesprings and Birchfield as well as Pride and Super Saturday. We are Bringing Art and Culture Into Everyday Life and all of our artists are working with people in Yeovil to co-create public Art for Glovers Walk during its period of Meanwhile Use in the next 2 years.

Friday was also the launch of Explore Yeovil a new platform to share events, good news and updates about the Yeovil Reimagine project. A place to find out what's on and what's worth finding, built for residents and visitors alike. Check it out!

📣✨️ Somerset Art Weeks has arrived! ✨️📣

A fabulous first day yesterday as Somerset Art Weeks officially opened. We are happy to announce 2 venues again here in Yeovil town centre for the countywide art festival.

Venue 47 has two of our talented Yeovil Creatives Rhiannon Cross and Dawn Handy in residence where you can visit their studios, meet the artists and see some beautiful and vibrant Art that shares experiences of multi-heritage ancestry and stories.

Venue 46 is our main gallery where we are delighted to shine a spotlight on our wider membership in this years Somerset Art Weeks. Finding Calm In the Chaos is a rich exhibition reflecting the diversity of the group but emphasise the strong connections they have through their creativity.

✨️ We have also just opened a new exhibition exploring the heritage around Glovers Walk with a collection of photographs from artist Kirsten Cook and many archive items worth a closer look!
