A dedicated mudlark discovered a 16th-century Tudor sword hidden in the mud of the River Thames in London. The weapon still retained its original wooden handle, wrapped in twisted brass wire, though experts determined the blade had already been broken before it was lost to the river centuries ago. Preserved by the Thames' oxygen-poor mud, the sword remains one of the most extraordinary Tudor finds ever recovered from the river.

After decades of searching the tidal foreshore, this sword stands out as one of the most treasured discoveries, alongside other rare finds like a Tudor shoe and a Roman soldier's sword scabbard chape. Each object pulled from the mud offers a rare, intimate glimpse into the lives of Londoners who walked the riverbanks centuries ago, turning the Thames itself into a hidden history book.
