“What inspires me is the sea stone - the pebble. I am intrigued by the stability of the stone and the movement of the water, which imperceptibly sculpts and transforms it, always in harmony with the mood of the sky and the play of light.
As I step on the pebbles, I feel present. I am. There is tremendous beauty in ‘nowness’.
In Greek, kosmos [world, universe] is linked to kosmema, meaning ‘jewel’ or ‘ornament’.
To be present in the kosmos is a gift. I feel this bliss of being in the world, and I want to capture it in my paintings.
I always seek to draw the viewer into this luminous space of the eternal moment, which is forever new.”
Giota Vorgia is an Athens-based visual artist whose painting practice explores the relationship between nature, time, light, and presence.
For more than two decades, she has developed a distinctive body of work centered on stone, water, and their continuous transformation. Stone suggests stability and endurance, while water introduces movement and change. Through their interaction, Vorgia reflects on the tension between permanence and impermanence, inviting the viewer to slow down, observe more closely, and become aware of the present
