🌲 IT4EST at the 90th Thessaloniki International Fair – TIF 2026

From 5–13 September 2026, the IT4EST project was presented at the Democritus University of Thrace (DUTH) stand in Pavilion 17 of the 90th Thessaloniki International Fair.

The event offered a valuable opportunity to introduce IT4EST to the wider public and demonstrate how digital technologies, innovation and interregional cooperation can contribute to more resilient and sustainable European forests.

Throughout the exhibition, Associate Professor Michalis Chalaris, IT4EST Scientific Coordinator at DUTH, and the DUTH team welcomed visitors, shared the project’s vision and activities, and discussed how artificial intelligence, remote sensing, digital monitoring and smart forest-management solutions can strengthen wildfire prevention, preparedness and ecosystem resilience.

IT4EST continues to bring together research, technology and regional expertise to develop practical solutions for the forests of tomorrow.

At the 6th ESP Europe Conference in Prague, Czechia, LIFE RENATA showcase was presented in the conference by Apostolos Karteris, Dr. Environmental Engineer and Co-Owner of kartECO. The ESP conference brought together scientists, policymakers, practitioners, and other stakeholders to explore how ecosystem services can be harnessed to reduce social inequalities, strengthen climate resilience, and drive sustainable development. Discussions at the conference focused on the integration of ecosystem services into decision-making processes, policy implementation, and cross-sectoral collaboration in response to new policies at national and EU levels.

🌍 Roadmap towards Natura 2000 Transition ✨

🔗 The Roadmap supports Moldova’s transition from the Emerald Network to the EU Natura 2000 Network.

🛠️ It provides a clear step-by-step plan for legal alignment, site designation, data mapping, management, monitoring and financing.

📅 The transition is structured in three phases:
Pre-accession, accession and post-accession, until 2030 and beyond.

🤝 A practical tool for authorities, experts, site managers and partners working for nature conservation.

Life Renata has been has been a bridge of knowledge and cooperation between Greece and Moldova.

🇬🇷 Drawing on Greece’s experience with Natura 2000 the projrct worked with Moldovan institutions to turn EU requirements into practical, nationally relevant tools.

🇲🇩 The project’s key legacy is stronger operational capacity:
✅ trained professionals
✅ technical guidelines
✅ monitoring and reporting methods
✅ a Knowledge Repository
✅ an updated GIS database for the Emerald Network

Today Life Renata Project held its Final Conference and Local Seminar on Governance Mechanisms and Implementation Pathways for Natura 2000, discussing its contribution.
