Imagine entering the ruins of an ancient temple in the heart of Mexico… and discovering hundreds of human skulls neatly arranged, staring blankly from a terrifying tower. This is the Huey Tzompantli, the Aztec tower of skulls recently discovered by archaeologists.

Who were the victims? Ancient records mention prisoners of war, perhaps even civilians sacrificed to the gods. But recent discoveries suggest they included more than just adult men—women and children, too.

Was all this part of a sacrificial ritual to maintain the balance of the cosmos? Or was it a terrorizing display of Aztec power to their enemies? The mystery of the tower of skulls still haunts us today, leaving unanswered questions: were the victims truly willing… or forced to give their lives to the gods?
