Sina (Arabic: ابن سینا, translith. Ibn Sīnā; 980 – June 1037 CE), known in the West as Avicenna, was a polymath Muslim who was regarded as the most important physician, astronomer, and writer of the Islamic Golden Age; He is considered the most influential philosopher of the pre-modern era. For many, he is the "Father of Modern Medicine." Of the approximately 450 titles he wrote, 240 of them survived to this day, of which 240 were in philosophy and 40 were in medicine. His most famous work is Al-Qānūn fī al-Thibb (Book of Medicine), a medical encyclopedia that became a reference and standard book in medicine at various universities and continued to be used for centuries until about 1650.
