It was a pleasure having you Zoe.

We were thrilled to hear that our application for funding under the Community Heritage Grant Scheme 2026 was successful. The Heritage Council will support the digitisation of the extensive Ballinglen Permanent Collection, which includes over 942 works spanning 34 years donated by resident artists.

Working with a specialist archivist, we will be digitising the existing collection and making it accessible online, while also installing an interactive digital display in The Ballinglen Museum of Art. This technology will show The Ballinglen Permanent Collection and work in future exhibitions.

The digitisation of The Ballinglen Permanent Collection is essential to preserving the cultural heritage of County Mayo and will allow visitors to browse, explore, and engage more deeply with the work, as well as enhancing future exhibitions.

Thank you to for their support. Stay tuned as this project develops and we announce more.

Artists and Ballinglen Fellows, Ita Freeney and Cathy Dorman, are exhibiting in The Lavit Gallery, Cork. The exhibition called Within and Beyond opens next Thursday 21st May, and is on view until 13 June, 2026:

🎉Opening reception Thursday 21 May, 5.30-7.30pm. Wine by Bubble Brothers
👩‍🎨Artists in conversation with art critic, broadcaster and author Cristín Leach, Saturday 30 May, 12pm

“Lavit Gallery presents a two-person exhibition by painters Ita Freeney and Cathy Dorman. Their respective sources are landscapes and interiors, while for both, the work lies between abstraction and representation. Although no humans appear in the paintings, their presence is implied. Both artists go through a very considered process of experiencing, observing and investigating light and shape, and distil, emphasise and manipulate these elements in their paintings.”

Cathy Dorman, Basic Programme, 2025, Oil and acrylic on canvas, 60 x 60cm
Ita Freeney, Taking The Long Way Home, 2026, Oil on linen, 56 x 76cm
