Eco Printing Workshop - Photo Printing with Plant Material

This 2-hour workshop explores experimental photo printing techniques using plant materials with Artist Leslie Allen Spillane at Cork Printmakers.

This activity is funded through Cork City Council’s Local Environmental Action Fund (LEAF) to support a range of environmental improvements, including a new screen-print wastewater filtration system, pollinator-friendly planting and a photo/dye garden. These works will help reduce water and chemical use & support biodiversity.

The third edition of BIND presents a collaboration with Cork Zine Fest (CZF).

BIND is a programme of exhibitions of artist books and zines as part of Cork Printmakers artist book library.

Cork Zine Fest is an annual zine-making festival established in 2018. In the lead-up to its 2026 festival season in November, BIND presents 4 zines by artists selected by CZF that highlight creative collaborations developed with CZF over the years.
The exhibition explores zine-making not only as an accessible art form for creative expression, but also as a vehicle for activism, community building, storytelling, human experiences and knowledge exchange.

Cork Printmakers present 𝒽𝒶𝓎 𝒷𝑜𝓎, 𝑔𝒶𝓎 𝒷𝑜𝓎, a solo exhibition by interdisciplinary artist Maitiú Mac Cárthaigh at Cork Printmakers Studio Gallery from 10 September – 12 November.

Mac Cárthaigh’s work explores the rural sexual imaginary. Within this, Mac Cárthaigh’s practice focuses on rural gentrification, homonormativity, greenwashing, and the material economies of space and place. They approach work through a Country Boy’s Make-Do methodology, drawing on a Co-Op materiality. Mac Cárthaigh’s practice examines how we construct different kinds of rural space with a materiality not rooted in rurality but with things that come in off the back of a lorry to be bought off the shelf.

hay boy, gay boy builds from Mac Cárthaigh’s writing practice set in Ballybent, a semi-fictional slice of gentrified countryside heaven made for urban consumption. This work follows a throuple who recently relocated from the City to Ballybent. Life is great, slow and healing with nature all around. That is, except for delivery delays from Dublin and Berlin. Desperate to make their long weekend bacchanal with the boys from the city a success, the throuple rush to the Co-Op to see what gear they might fashion from bullrings and builder’s twine.

This exhibition coincides with Mac Cárthaigh’s exhibition, thirty 6-inch top-down all-purpose at the LHQ Gallery in Cork County Hall. thirty 6-inch top-down all-purpose explores the interconnectivity of oat flat whites, artificial insemination and rustic so**my amidst a rapidly yassifying rural Ireland. This exhibition is supported through Cork County Council’s Emerging Visual Artist Award 2025.

Cork Printmakers Studio Gallery
2 September – 8 October 2026

The second edition of BIND presents "bear witness", a limited-edition artist book by Elize de B**r containing a series of photo etchings, writings and drawings, enclosed within a clamshell box.

The work is an initial response to a residency de B**r undertook on Svalbard in July 2026. The artist book examines the landscape, glaciers, oceans, fossils and plant life found on Svalbard. A landscape continuously existing in the push and pull of its paradoxes; it is both fragile and recalcitrant. What else are people to do, but bear witness to its extremes and nuances?

Alongside printmaking, books are a key element of de B**r's artistic practice, from transitional bookbinding, DIY zines and sculptural book forms. She explores the physical presence of books as an art object and how they act as sites of knowledge production, activated by "reading". Further challenging their form and function, using unconventional binding, pop-ups, and altered structures to subvert the expectation of how a standard book can be "read".

BIND aims to celebrate contemporary book art in printmaking through exhibiting artist books by three invited artists and groups within our existing library and archive of printmakers artist books across 2026.
The programme will activate the existing library and celebrate the new and innovative approaches to artists books as a both social and intimate durational art object. 

Elize de B**r is a South African visual artist based in Cork, Ireland. Her multidisciplinary practice spans printmaking, books, and sculpture. Her work has been shown nationally and internationally, including recent solo shows in LHQ Gallery, Cork County Library; QSS Gallery, Belfast, UK; Index Gallery, Waterford; Cork Printmakers Studio Gallery and The Lord Mayor’s Pavilion, Sample-Studio, Cork. She has artworks in both private and institutional collections, including the OPW and the University of Cape Town. Alongside her artistic practice, de B**r is an arts facilitator and co-organiser of Cork Zine Fest since 2022.

Lithography was invented in the late eighteenth century, using Bavarian limestone as the printing surface. This process allows for a wider range of marks and tone than many other printmaking techniques. It is particularly suited to imagery that incorporates drawing and washes.

This course introduces the principles of stone lithography. Participants learn how to set up their workspaces, the basics of the medium, and how to handle printing equipment and tools.

Stone Lithography is based on the resistance between grease and water. An image is drawn using a greasy material onto a “grained” smooth prepared limestone slab. Participants gain an understanding of how to prepare and grind a stone, draw directly onto the surface of a stone, etch the stone, roll up the stone with ink, and put the stone through the press to print the image onto paper.

Participants finish the course having created a series of prints.
