We would like to extend our thanks to all who attended the launch of our new exhibition Panorama Europa last week!

Panorama Europa presents the work of ten Irish artists who engage with traditions of European painting to explore contemporary identities and wider societal issues. The selected paintings, tapestry, sculptures and drawings reference works from Pre-Renaissance to Impressionism. The exhibition invites you to reflect on these art histories and consider how artists draw on diverse pictorial tropes to create new modes of representation.

Panorama Europa runs until November 01. The Glucksman is open Tuesday to Sunday, 11am to 5pm- we look forward to welcoming you to the gallery✨

an casadh (the turn) by Laura Ní Fhlaibhín opens in less than two weeks as part of Cork Midsummer Festival 2026!

Commissioned by The Glucksman and Cork Midsummer Festival, this biosculptural installation will be presented at Elizabeth Fort from 13th to 20th June, open daily 10am–5pm. These images offer a glimpse into the project's development over the past year. 🪱

Across the exhibition, local earthworms will live within sculptural cocoons processing organic waste into vermicompost. In their interconnected ovoid homes these creatures will turn over the soil to generate rich fertilizer, focusing attention on the ecological co-existence which occurs all around us. Ní Fhlaibhín will activate the installation across the fort in her performance rituals 'tae na bpéist' that consider the historical significance of the site as a women’s convict depot.

Developed with an Arts Council Project Award, the work emerged through ongoing research with Glucksman curator Katie O'Grady and collaborators including Dr Fidelma Butler and Dr Israel Ikoyi (Biological, Earth & Environmental Sciences, UCC), whose expertise shaped the project's approach to soil ecology and earthworm welfare.

Research into the history of Elizabeth Fort led to stories of women's incarceration and transportation overseas, alongside folklore surrounding the péist (worm) as monstrous sea serpent, as healer and diviner. The sculptural elements of an casadh were realised through collaborations by the artist with Art and Assembly, London, and Novotný Glass Studio, Czechia.

Through Cork City Council, the project connected with community initiatives including TEST SITE and Soil Savers Cork while recordings of worms at work beneath the soil will form part of an upcoming broadcast on éist radio. The exhibition will also feature a publication of texts by Laura Ní Fhlaibhín, Beulah Ezeugo, Laura Fitzgerald and Emily Steer.

This month's Little Interview is with Eleanor McCaughey, who is one of the artists featured in our current exhibition Panorama Europa.

Every month we ask the same set of cultural questions to one of our artistic, academic or civic collaborators.

Over the last number of years, we have interviewed diverse members of the Glucksman community - artists, academics, staff members, guests, audiences and workshop participants. The responses are funny, inspiring, revealing and always a great read.

In celebration of Cork Traveller Pride Week, the Glucksman is delighted to host the showcase Art and Advocacy in our foyer space.

Cork Traveller Pride Week (running alongside national celebrations in May 2026) is a vibrant festival celebrating Irish Traveller culture, heritage, and identity as integral to Cork's community. Curated by the Tvg Cork and partners, it features free community events like flag-raisings, heritage talks, and family fun days to promote positive visibility.

Art and Advocacy runs in the Glucksman until Sunday May 31- for more information, head to the link in our bio under 'Events'🔗

The Glucksman’s showcase, Art & Advocacy, reflects on projects developed with the Traveller community in the museum over the past decade. In 2022, The Glucksman was one of fifteen organisations in Cork City to be recognised at the inaugural Traveller Ally Awards. The Traveller Ally Award recognises the work of organisations and also serves as a signal to the Traveller community that these organisations respect Traveller culture and are open to working with and supporting it.
