Locating women in the historical archive can be a challenge - but one that is worth tackling, producing new and deeper understanding of the past.

In the run-up to on Sun 8 March we are sharing some of the research and documents available on the Virtual Record Treasury of Ireland highlighting women in the records, and their role in History.

It may take more effort to find women in the archive, but elite women like Elizabeth Butler, duchess of Ormond were an exception. The familiar tone of her letter to Secretary of State Arlington shows her social standing.
