We are delighted to share that renowned traditional musician and composer Emer Mayock has been selected as the commissioned artist for OnSight Live! 2026 -2027!

OnSight is a longstanding partnership between Mayo County Council Arts Service, the National Museum of Ireland and Mayo Artsquad, supporting artists in creating new work inspired by the Irish Folklife Collection at Turlough Park.

Emer will work with young Mayo musicians to develop original compositions for performance and installation at Turlough Park.

🎉 We're delighted to announce that Soldiers & Chiefs has reopened to the public at the National Museum of Ireland, Collins Barracks.

Following a temporary closure for collections care, this award-winning exhibition once again invites visitors to explore Ireland's military history from 1550 to the 21st century.

Featuring more than 1,000 objects from around the world across 1,700 square metres of exhibition space, Soldiers & Chiefs tells the story of how soldiering and warfare have shaped the lives of Irish people, both military and civilian, at home and abroad.

Through original artefacts, letters, replicas and interactive displays, discover centuries of fascinating history.

Local history and heritage groups play a vital role in preserving the stories, traditions, and memories that define our communities.

The Irish Community Archive Network (iCAN) is the leading organisation championing and supporting community archives in Ireland, with an aim to encourage and support community groups to collect, preserve and make accessible their local history and heritage online.

This year, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown Heritage Office will be partnering with the National Museum of Ireland and The Heritage Council to bring the Irish Community Archive Network (iCAN) to Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown.

We would like to invite you to an information session to find out more about this exciting initiative and whether this is something you/ your group may be interested in getting involved with. The aim is to work with a small number of groups initially, with the option of bringing more groups on board over time.

Event Details:

The information session will take place in The Talbot Hotel, Stillorgan at 7pm on Tuesday 8 September 2026.
