About the book by Jim Ryan:
The story “Insurrection” seems to have been forgotten in the passing of the years and was not known to the author beforehand.

Stories of an encampment of local people on a hill near Carrick who decided to take a stand against the ruling class who lived in their large houses in 1848 at the height of the famine. This ruling class, who through their actions had forced the local population into abject poverty over many years, resulted in the population being forever in poverty, forever illiterate and forever powerless.
We have tried to tell it as it was happening. The insurrection involving several hundreds of men from all walks of life under the leadership of John O`Mahony who was potentially a far greater danger and was perceived by the English authorites as a greater and more serious threat to their authority than any other political movement at that time.

Ned Kirwan, a man who did so much over the years to keep the Captain Pat Walsh Commemoration going every Easter Sunday has sadly passed on.
Neds funeral arrangements are included above.
There will be a Guard of honour for Ned from Kilmoganny Old Post Office at 10.30 tomorrow morning.

May Ned rest in peace.
