People buy old postcards for all kinds of reasons. But always of meaning to them. Today, map and geology postcards were bought as well as humour, harbours, political, area of origin and of course romance. A lovely couple were so excited to buy a very clear photographic 100 year old card of a cliff where they got engaged 💕. Another couple spent a very happy hour sharing and discussing old cards.
A tourist wanted vintage cards of areas visited.
A lovely day.

The Jaunting Cart was very popular in cities and country. Had 2 wheels, seat for driver and 2 side cars back to back for people. The following images are all early 1900s either painted (and enhanced for comical or artistic licence) or the more legit BW.

Time to look at earlier forms of transport in Ireland. Without a motor or fuel.
Particularly loved in Irish culture, the donkey powered the earliest form of country life. The following are some from our collection.
Enjoy from Vintage Irish Postcards.

Old Irish Easter Postcard images are either the early 1900s Victorian and Edwardian embossed ones featuring bunnies, chicks, eggs, flowers. Great embellished fun art detail, with Easter Greetings. Then there is a large category of historical postcards of The Easter Rising, 1916. Because these were printed hastily they are mostly in black and white, with real photos providing more authentic imagery. Postcards were used for political propaganda then in the same way social media is today.

Looking for something a bit different. This card is postmarked in 1908 showing a young boy wearing a badge of a large cross made with paper or card. These crosses may have had cloth added on an and could be elaborate. Apparently this was a custom practised in some areas up until early 20th century. I had never heard of such a custom.

A different card all right!

I cannot believe today's card was posted in 1908, that's nearly 120 years ago. It's got such a fresh take on the representation of St Patrick, the painting by John Carey being described as Art Nouveau and Celtic Revival. Here he is pondering on the slopes of Slieve Mish.
The description on the back says Slieve Mish is in the North. Nope, it's in Kerry. But that is forgiven as this is one of my favourite St. Patrick Cards.
