Stradbally Woodland Railway

It was a delight to welcome some visitors from Germany this week on a private tour outing to Stradbally. A very enjoyable day was had travelling behind Steam and many of them had knowledge of similar heritage railways in Germany devoted to peat or Torfbahn or Feldbahn.

We displayed our Project 568 consisting of Wagonmaster locomotive LM301 and an Irish built milled peat wagon built in Galway in the 1970s showcasing the iconic peat trains of Bord na Móna.

We hope to showcase some other significant peat railway history and memories this year in acknowledgement of the 80th anniversary of the establishment of Bord na Móna in 1946.

And maybe even write a new chapter in the lives of our former ESB and BnM locomotives and wagons 😉

After a busy weekend with our small team spread between Stradbally, Wexford and Antrim at Shane's Castle Steam Rally our Mini locos are back home from Wexford with their big siblings. Thanks so much to Wexford Model Railway Club for having us to show a new audience our passion for preserving our local railway heritage.
It was lovely to meet fellow volunteers from Cork, Kerry,Limerick,Dublin,Wicklow,Donegal and msny other places.

With Steam trains running at Stradbally today and tomorrow our team are also in Wexford at the Wexford Model Railway Exhibition where Mini "Róisin", Mini Wagonmaster LM335 and Mini version of LM167 "Warrior" are on display 🚂🚃🚃
