A remarkable folk-art form- Madhubani painting is believed to have developed in the 8th or 7th century BCE. It is said that King Janak had asked to create the painting to immortalize the moments of his daughter Sita's wedding to Prince Rama (of the Hindu epic- Ramayana). However, the origins of Madhubani are still unknown.
