For the final edition of our Artist Highlights✨ series for Land as Memory, Matter as Landscape, curated by Prayag Chakradhar Prayag Chakradhar , we spotlight three artists who explore how landscapes are shaped by memory, movement, material, and the fragments of experiences we carry with us.
Manish Sharma Manish Sharmaa explores memory as a fragmented landscape in The Scape of Memory, where images, experiences and cultural traces fade, break apart and reappear in altered forms. Working with wood, cement, earth colours, natural pigments and touches of 24-carat gold, Sharma creates layered surfaces that reflect memory, loss, permanence, decay and the uncertain nature of recollection.
Souvik Das Souvik Das draws inspiration from the natural surfaces of geological caves, translating their textures and irregularities through clay. His ceramic works balance natural forms with the symmetry and geometry of constructed spaces. Influenced by changing urban environments, his expressive sculptures reflect the textures and complexities of contemporary society while retaining a quiet, tactile presence.
Hemant Gavankar Hemant Gavankar explores changing spaces and cityscapes through images drawn from observation, memory and imagination. Bringing together fragments from different moments and geographies, his works blur the boundaries between private, public and digital spaces, belonging and not belonging, home and being away from home. His landscapes shift between the real, the imagined and the remembered.
Together, their works bring our Artist Highlights series to a close, inviting us to look beyond landscape as simply a physical place and consider it as something continually shaped by memory, movement, observation, imagination and lived experience.
