Glimpses from When We Return, the closing chapter of CISA 2025 at Khoj Studios.

Over the past days, the exhibition welcomed artists, curators, researchers, and visitors into its reflections on return, memory, distance, and belonging. We are grateful to everyone who spent time with the works and conversations, and to all those who engaged with the exhibition so thoughtfully throughout its run.

We also acknowledge Emdadul Haque Topu and Hengame Hosseini, who were unable to join us in Delhi, but whose contributions were central to When We Return and deeply felt across the exhibition.

Thank you to everyone who made this chapter possible and to all who visited, listened, and reflected with us.

Special thanks to CISA mentors Shuddhabrata Sengupta and Latika Gupta.

Curatorial Intensive South Asia (CISA) fellowship programme conceived and initiated by Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan New Delhi in collaboration with Khoj International Artists’ Association. The fellowship is targeted at young curators from South Asia whose practice is situated in the field of the visual arts.

Public Programming for When We Return

As part of the exhibitions of Curatorial Intensive South Asia (CISA) 2025, on view from March 12–22, 2026, at Khoj Studios, S-17, Khirkee Extension, New Delhi, a series of public programmes accompanies When We Return.

Opening on March 12, 2026, from 5pm–9pm, the exhibitions unfold across six curatorial propositions developed by the CISA 2025 Fellows, in collaboration with Khoj International Artists’ Association and Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan New Delhi.

The public programming — comprising a screening, workshop, and webinar — has been conceived as a gathering space to think together about the many ways one returns. It reflects on forms of return that are interrupted, deferred, or made impossible, and listens closely to those who cannot return.

To participate in any of the Public Programmes, please register at the link in bio.

For more information on When We Return and the CISA fellowship programme, please visit the Khoj website.

Unfinished, curated by Hengame Hosseini, opens on 12 March 2026 at 5 PM at Khoj International Artists’ Association as part of Curatorial Intensive South Asia 2025, organised by Khoj and Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan, New Delhi.

True to its name, this exhibition remains unfinished. The completed works that were meant to be carried by the curator from Iran to Delhi remain suspended, caught between the fires of war and the cancellation of flights.

Hengame Hosseini is an artist and curator based in Tehran. Her practice moves between image-making, research, and curatorial work, and is concerned with how images shape collective memory—particularly in contexts marked by erasure, displacement, and silence.

The exhibition was conceived to bring together women artists from different disciplines to reflect on what persists despite erasure, what has been rendered invisible, and what remains unresolved. It proposed unfinishedness not as a lack, but as a shared condition—ethical, temporal, and imaginative.

However, due to the ongoing political situation in Iran, Hengame is unfortunately unable to travel to present the exhibition. Nevertheless, her curatorial voice remains an integral part of the show, and we invite you to spend time with what her exhibition space carries.

Presented within When We Return, a showcase of six curated projects by the CISA 2025 fellows, the exhibition opens on 12 March at 5 PM and remains on view until 22 March.
