Duality

Artist Nilisha,explores the realm of portraiture, drawn to the profound ability to communicate beyond words. Her fascination with capturing the human experience leads her to delve into the intricate relationships between the physical and psychological selves.
Her artistic journey begins with representational portraiture, observing people in everyday life. However, as she evolves, she seeks to reveal the figures in a broader context, beyond their anatomy. She aims to give visual form to abstract emotions, experiences, and memories embodied within the human form.
Currently, her work explores the concept of identity, intrigued by the diverse personalities of her subjects. Drawing from her background in psychology, she examines how identity roles are shaped by past experiences, memories, and the surrounding environment. Through oil paintings on linen canvases, she overlaps and superimposes multiple figures, representing the multifaceted nature of human identity.
Her artistic process involves experimentation with various mediums, compositions, and techniques to visually and conceptually support her intended expressions. Ultimately, her goal is to create paintings that speak to her world, both within and around her.
Nilisha Phad has a masters in Fine Arts and specialization in portraiture from J J School of Fine Arts, Mumbai. She is a 1st class distinction holder from her college and has won several awards and appreciation for her portraiture works.
