On 7/10/2026, as part of the nationwide Poshan Maah, i.e., from September 7 to October 8 (Nutrition Month), Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS), National Institute of Indian Medical Heritage (NIIMH), Ministry of Ayush, Government of India, Hyderabad, conducted an interactive awareness program on healthy nutrition and dietary habits at the Government Primary School, Malakpet, today.
Organised under the leadership and guidance of Dr G.P. Prasad, Assistant Director In-Charge at NIIMH, the initiative aimed to instil foundational concepts of balanced nutrition and holistic health among young learners early in life.
During the program, Dr Nagula Sindhuja and K. Srinivasa Rao from NIIMH visited the school and interacted with students from Classes 1 to 5. The interactive session focused on key aspects of traditional and modern nutrition:
Healthy Eating Habits: Emphasising the daily inclusion of fresh local vegetables, seasonal fruits, and whole grains to support physical growth and cognitive development.
Nutritional Value of Millets: Educating students on traditional, highly nutrient-dense superfoods like millets to boost natural immunity, digestion, and long-term vitality.
Discouraging Junk Food: Sensitising children to the health risks associated with processed junk food and encouraging mindful, wholesome eating habits from a young age.
To demonstrate practical, wholesome alternatives to sugary commercial beverages, fresh fruit juice was served to all participating students during the event. The school management, teaching staff, and students enthusiastically participated, making the community outreach effort a successful drive toward better child nutrition.
