The Government of Punjab had conceptualized a mega project named as Punjab Freedom Movement Memorial in commemoration of the unparalleled sacrifices of Indian’s & Punjabi’s for independence of India. The project was aimed at setting up integrated memorial complex for the heroes of the freedom struggle on 25 acres of land in the periphery of Kartarpur. T

he Memorial is aimed at disseminating knowledge about the rich cultural heritage of the State in the minds of youngsters. The site, which falls on the Jalandhar-Amritsar national highway, was carefully selected by the State Government keeping in mind its easy accessibility to visitors and to add another tourist destination for those on way to the Golden Temple. Punjab Freedom Movement Memorial Foundation was formed by Government of Punjab for implementation of this prestigious project

Making of The Memorial
Punjab is a land of great heroes and martyrs who fearlessly rose in revolt against the British and sacrificed their lives to free their motherland. A land whose history holds spellbinding stories that can inspire generations to come. Vinay Bublani IAS : The Government of Punjab appointed Vinay Bublani as Chief Executive Officer for the project. The expectation of Executive committee from CEO for this project was complete management and the ex*****on, ensuring timely delivery and efficient use of funds and resources

Shyam Benegal : The committee was keen to rope in film makers of repute for making the “Jang-e-Azadi” film on the history of Punjab, encapsulating the concept paper and delivering the essence with patriotic fervour. Renowned director, Shyam Benegal accepted the proposal, bringing his exemplary style of film making to the project. The film is being showcased in the Movie Theatre in the museum. Raj Rewal : The Foundation parallelly identified an architect who could visualize and design a memorial with grandeur, aesthetics and function appropriate for a project of this proportion. Raj Rewal, with the experience of designing magnificent structures like the Hall of Nations, Parliament Library building, Asian Games Village, National Institute of Immunology among others was appointed as the Master Technical Consultants to design the Memorial. Concept Committee Members : The Government of Punjab constituted a Concept Committee, to explore the pages of history to carve out the concept narrative for this museum. The result was a comprehensive 67-page concept paper that captured the history of the freedom struggle of Punjab. The concept paper detailed the key events and the brave men who challenged imperial oppressors. The paper sketched out overwhelming tales of sacrifice and struggle that people of Punjab had endured. In this memorial, the 67-page script was brought to life by portraying the spirit of freedom and valour with the help of different mediums of visual communications to inspire the youth and ingrain in them nationalism.
