Working alone at night means when the breakthroughs happen, there'll be no one to celebrate it with.
Getting ready for was quite an adventure. I ended up rewriting most of the devices debrief for the project. Earlier the visuals and lights were being in the background, but here is brought into the show as an integral part. So, mahjong it behave as close to the music while not causing to much visual distraction was challenging.
The virtual instruments also needed to be upgraded, and setup properly for the on road rig.
Along with all this, I wanted the whole show to be setup by one person within 30 minutes without getting too sweaty. Which meant I had to come up with ways to mount 7 lights with their wiring without any tools or climbing up on ladders. The rig needed to be modified to accommodate the projector and DMX controller. The number of cables quadrupled from the last time I traveled.
Everything needed a solution slightly north of what was available. Being an engineer pays off when that happens.
And finally, almost all of that work is over, the projects are ready for sound check and play through, but that'll be tomorrow. I managed to incorporate almost all of the suggestions I got from the preview, fixed several bugs in color cross fading algorithm to reduce flicker, made the lights and visuals react more in time with the overall pace etc.
I have to say, this calls for a celebration. And that's what I'll do for the next 15 minutes. Or until I remember the next big thing that I've been forgetting!
But for you, come down to Lokadharmi for the premier on 4th January 6.30 pm or to Niracharth, Vadakkanchery on January 9th 7.30pm to see it all in action.
