NEW EXHIBITION ALERT!!!
'A Winter Summer'
A solo exhibition of photographs by the acclaimed photographer, Sohrab Hura, and organised in collaboration with the Experimenter Gallery, Kolkata, at the Alipore Museum.
Opens tomorrow, Thursday, 6 November, at 11:30 AM
The exhibition will be on display in the ‘Old Art Gallery’ – close to the historic Netaji and Nehru Cells – till 6 December. This is a new exhibition space that we are inaugurating at the Alipore Museum with this exhibition.
A Winter Summer marks the India debut of two seminal bodies of work – Snow and The Song of Sparrows in a Hundred Days of Summer. Reflecting on the transition of snow in Kashmir and the scorching summer in Barwani, Madhya Pradesh, the photographs also consider two fundamentally different social, economic, and political landscapes through the unravelling of two extreme seasons.
Born in Chinsurah in West Bengal in 1981, Sohrab Hura is a photographer of international acclaim who has exhibited his photographs all over the world, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and is only the second Indian photographer after Raghu Rai to become a nominee member of Magnum Photos, the international photographic cooperative of the world’s top-class photographers.’ His vivid, sometimes surreal photography explores his position with the world that he exists in. Though Hura initially worked through the prism of social documentary, he soon turned his strong vision inward, creating visual journals of his life and personal relationships as a means to ‘find his own logic.’ This will be a feature of 'A Winter Summer'.
Please note that Sohrab Hura himself will lead a walkthrough of the exhibition at 12 noon tomorrow, Thursday, 6 November.
