Exhibition: “When the Other Stares Back : Part | "
Revisiting When the Other Stares Back : Part | (26 March - 07 June, 2022). Curated by at Kaee Contemporary, featuring .
Suhasini Kejriwal’s work explores the "great silence"—a concept borrowed from science fiction to describe our inability to communicate with the non-human intelligence surrounding us. Through a meticulous layering of photography, painting and embroidery, Kejriwal investigates the multi-species habitations of urban landscapes like Chitpur and Chor Bazar.
By centering the inquisitive, abyssal gaze of "non-human actants"—such as the goat in Bhola (2019-20) or the stray dogs and crows of Beadon Street—she challenges "logocentrism," the bias that prizes human language as a prerequisite for intelligence.
These works serve as a profound interrogation of the ease or unease with which human and animal lives sit within one another, transforming the city into a site of deep psychological and ecological encounter.
