Exhibition: “When the Other Stares Back : Part | "

Revisiting When the Other Stares Back : Part | (26 March - 07 June, 2022). Curated by at Kaee Contemporary, featuring .

Suhasini Kejriwal’s work explores the "great silence"—a concept borrowed from science fiction to describe our inability to communicate with the non-human intelligence surrounding us. Through a meticulous layering of photography, painting and embroidery, Kejriwal investigates the multi-species habitations of urban landscapes like Chitpur and Chor Bazar.

By centering the inquisitive, abyssal gaze of "non-human actants"—such as the goat in Bhola (2019-20) or the stray dogs and crows of Beadon Street—she challenges "logocentrism," the bias that prizes human language as a prerequisite for intelligence.

These works serve as a profound interrogation of the ease or unease with which human and animal lives sit within one another, transforming the city into a site of deep psychological and ecological encounter.

Artist on focus :
GIGI SCARIA
Exhibition – "When the Other Stares Back" : Part ||

Revisiting When the Other Stares Back : Part || (22 July - 30 September, 2022) curated by Adwait Singh at Kaee Contemporary, featuring Gigi Scaria.
Scaria’s work meticulously maps the social and political dimensions of our urban landscape. Through his work Scaria explores the absurdist environments of modern progress. Where towering cityscapes become metaphors for migration, displacement and the collective psyche.

His work destabilizes traditional views of the city, highlighting the friction between human vulnerability and rigid architectural structures. By navigating these shifting terrains, Scaria prompts us to question the true cost of rapid urban expansion.

His installations, such as the evocative Lockdown, unearth feelings of vulnerability and displacement, forcing an engagement with the friction between the lived human experience and the rigid, often exclusionary, maps of the modern city. While navigating these precarious terrains, Scaria invites the viewer to question: if space is aspiration, whose desires does it truly fulfill?

JAGANNATH PANDA
Exhibition - "When the Other Stares Back"

Revisiting When the Other Stares Back (22 July – 30 September 2022), curated by Adwait Singh at Kaee Contemporary, featuring Jagannath Panda.
Grounded in Singh’s curatorial framework, Panda’s practice interrogates the tensions of rapid urbanisation through a layered visual language that merges mixed media with mythological references.

His works destabilise linear historical narratives, foregrounding the vulnerability of transforming landscapes and the friction between the natural world
and the expanding modern city. While implicating the viewer within these shifting ecological and perceptual terrains.
