On National Librarians’ Day, we celebrate the enduring legacy of Dr. S. R. Ranganathan, the father of Library and Information Science in India, whose vision transformed librarianship into a dynamic discipline of knowledge. He founded the Documentation, Research and Training Centre (DRTC) of the Indian Statistical Institute, which was formally inaugurated on 16th August, 1962. In recognition of the valuable contributions of Dr. Ranganathan to the field of Library and Information Sciences, Govt. of India honoured him with the Padmashri award in 1957. He was the honorary professor of DRTC during 1962-72.
The photograph shared here captures Ranganathan (at extreme right) and C. D. Deshmukh delivering speech at the DRTC Seminar. The Documentation Research and Training Centre (DRTC).
