On Satyajit Ray’s birth anniversary, Sanjay Mukhopadhyay led Satyajit er Shohor — a captivating discussion on Ray’s city.
From frames to philosophy, the talk revisited how Ray redefined Indian cinema and how the city lived in his work.
Sanjay Mukhopadhyay is a film scholar, essayist, columnist, translator, and communication expert. He founded the Film Studies department at Jadavpur University and led it for over eight years. He has served as Director of the School of Media, Communication & Cultural Studies and as Director and CEO of Roopkala Kendra, Kolkata. A senior fellow at McGill University’s Centre for Development Area Studies, his work centers on cultural modernity. His books include Anobhijatoder Jonyo Opera and Ritwik Ta**ra.
