The Lilac-breasted Roller is easily one of the most striking birds I’ve ever come across — a beautiful blend of lilac, turquoise, and blue that looks like a moving piece of art. Native to Africa, it’s known not just for its colours, but for the calm, almost regal way it carries itself.
I was reminded of it recently during a trip to Pench, where I spotted an Indian Roller — a close cousin, equally vivid in shades of blue. Though from different continents, they share the same effortless beauty that makes you pause and look twice.
This painting is a small attempt to capture the charm of the Lilac-breasted Roller — a bird I’ve long admired for its quiet brilliance.
