Arvind Sundar
Untitled, 2019
Acrylic on Canvas
10 x 8 in

Arvind Sundar (b.1993, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India) attained his Masters in Fine Arts from the University of Cincinnati, Cincinnati, Ohio, 2018.

Arvind’s work navigates the geometry of the grid by contesting its apparent neutrality. He employs the materiality of paint and screen printing, and engages the grid as a performative site. Through push-pull negotiations between drawn lines and color-fields, Arvind undoes the notion of the picture plane, offering renewed indexes of spatial reference. The word Ta**ra means both “union of forms” and “system”. These drawings are systems created using lines and forms. The collaged cut paper acts as pockets of colour fields providing contrast. The lines act as a conduit that connects those small pockets. Circuit boards and maps were the primary inspirations for these drawings.

He has had a solo show at 840 Gallery, the University of Cincinnati, Ohio in 2017-18. He has also been a part of several groups shows at Benton House, Chicago, Illinois, 2016, Waiting Room Gallery, University of Cincinnati, Cincinnati, Ohio,2016, Carnegie Art Center, Covington, Kentucky, 2017, Myers and Reed Gallery, University of Cincinnati, Cincinnati, Ohio, 2017, Wave Pool Gallery, Cincinnati, Ohio, 2017, Anytime Department Gallery, Cincinnati, Ohio, 2017, Thunder-sky Inc Gallery, Cincinnati, Ohio, 2018 among several others. He has received a distinguished Merit Scholarship at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, 2015, University Grant Scholarship at the University of Cincinnati, 2016, the Wolfstein Fellowship, 2017, an award at the Avon Duct Tape Festival, Ohio, 2017 amongst many other medals and awards.

City Skyline, 2021
Acid-proof mountboard
20.5 x 22.5 in

Anushree Rabadia (b. 1998, Vadodara, Gujarat, India) completed her BVA in Painting from the Faculty of Fine Arts, Maharaja Sayajirao University, Vadodara, 2021. She is currently pursuing her MVA in Painting from the same University.

Anushree’s works are conceptually derived from her environment, nature, and the necessities of daily existence. She manipulates the materials according to the tactility of the subject to communicate these observations. She uses pattern, flow, texture, rhythm, softness, sensitivity, and an interest in optical illusion to portray the intensity of her artwork, which enables her to produce 2-dimensional pieces on a mountboard. The process of her expression is an action of laborious handwork with intricacy in the industrial and technological era. Anushree draws inspiration from India’s rich textile history for her own creative interpretations. This body of work is analogous to a visual metonym for the traditional weaving and mounting technique to create textured and nuanced surfaces that have a unique interplay with light.

She has participated in various solo and group shows at Priyasri Art Gallery, Mumbai (2022), Art Incept Gallery, Delhi (2022), The Art Platform Solo Virtual Exhibition, Limited Editions Gallery, Vadodara (2022) and Mirror/Mirror, Anant Art Gallery, Delhi (2024 - 2025).

She has been awarded the Jeram Patel Award, Faculty of Fine Arts, The Maharaja Sayajirao University, Vadodara (2020-2021).

Anushree lives and works in Vadodara, Gujarat, India.

Anni Kumari
Intimate Pattern 3, 2021
Acrylic on canvas
12 in diameter x 1 in

Anni Kumari (b.1983, Jharkhand, India) received BA Hons. in Political Science at Miranda House, Delhi University and pursued a BFA and MFA in Painting from the College of Art, Delhi in 2013.

Anni uses repetitive pattern making to explore the complexities of contemporary human relationships and their constant transmutation. In her works, rhythmic patterns based on mathematical algorithms, ideas, and concepts like the Prime Numbers and the Fibonacci Sequence, become symbols of complex interdependent structures and passages. By reclaiming her practice as a craft, she critiques the distinction between what is regarded as high art and craft, and the way value is ascribed to labour.

Her works have been exhibited in solo and group shows in India, including Again & Yet Again, OED Gallery, Kochi (2017); Mirrored Questions, Art District XIII (2019); Shifting Positions, India Art Fair (2020); Algorithms, Anant Art + Apparao Galleries (2021), Spiralling into the Absurd, Anant Art Gallery (2021); Life is better in Black & White, Art Positive, Delhi (2021); Codes of a Future, Traces of the Ancient, Treasure Art Gallery, Delhi (2022); Spontaneous Order, Treasure Art Gallery + Tao Art Gallery, Mumbai (2023) and Alingan: Intimate Embrace, Treasure Art Gallery, India Art Fair (2023).

Additionally, she is a visiting professor at Ashoka University and has been a grantee at Artreach India, Lalit Kala Akademi, Sahapedia-UNESCO, Ministry of Culture, GOI, and the University Grants Commission. She has been an artist-in-residence at the Piramal Art Foundation, Maharashtra, 2016.

Anni Kumari lives and works in Delhi, India.

Anirudh Shaktawat
Paintings of caves in Hampi and Badami - III (from Kha), 2024
Watercolour made with industrial slurry on parchment offcuts
20.5 x 17 in

Anirudh Shaktawat (b.1999, Ahmedabad, India) holds a BFA with Distinction, The School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

His practice examines granularity as both matter and metaphor. Having lived in the industrial backyards of western India, he developed an intimate relationship with debris. He arranges, casts, paints, and draws with archaeological waste, smelting slag, and alchemical residue. From stone to grain, to pigment, to vapour, his works trace shifts in physical states while generating ontological ambiguities. By oscillating between conceptual and affective registers, he seeks meaning and belonging in the debris of an imperial past and within a ceaselessly pulverising present. He grounds significance in the rubble of image-making and engages with the micro-politics of the disintegrated.

The works in this series simultaneously look at the residue of alchemical transformation and industrial purification. The working title, Kha, translates to hole, cavity, or void, and references the close association of ascetic bodies to cavernous spaces in miniature and manuscript traditions of South Asia. These paintings depict the man-made and natural cave-temples of Hampi and Badami. Painted on parchment offcuts, the works are created using
a watercolour cake that the artist casts from industrial slurry collected in Karnataka.

Anirudh’s solo exhibitions include exhibits at Chemould CoLab, Mumbai (2023) and Blueprint12 (2022). Shaktawat was also part of the Hampi Art Lab’s inaugural batch (2024), has received the Space118 Fine Arts Grant (2021-22), and was shortlisted for The Arts Family London Award (2021-2022).

Anirudh lives and works in Udaipur, Rajasthan, India.
