The contemporary art world is a complex ecosystem. It is composed of many players and institutions who cohabit in a state of dependency. The purpose of this workshop is to examine who these players are, what are their specific roles within the ecosystem, and how they contribute to the validation of contemporary art. Looking back on the recent past, in order to better understand the current situation, it will be important also to address how these roles have shifted since the creation of the market for modern art in the late 1800s.
