Mummy: The Inside Story

Mummy: The Inside Story Get an inside view of an Egyptian mummy for the first time in 3D virtual unwrapping at Chhatrapati Brought to you by BP & The Reliance Foundation

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya - CSMVS, (formerly the Prince of Wales Museum of Western India), will showcase a remarkable exhibition ‘Mummy - the Inside Story’ from 21st November, 2012 onwards for four months. This exhibition is presented through the collaboration of the British Museum and CSMVS and is brought to Mumbai by BP and Reliance Foundation. The exhibition will take visi

tors on a 3D immersive experience into the coffin of Nesperennub, a priest who lived and died in Egypt nearly 3,000 years ago. This path-breaking exhibition with its non-invasive technique of X-rays, CT-scans and advanced computer technology takes viewers through a ‘virtual unwrap’,’ a 3D journey combined with dramatic reconstructions of the priest’s life and mummification in ancient Egypt, portraying its every feature using a forensic approach. In addition, the exhibition is designed with a five minute pre-show film giving context to his historical and social background. Proudly presented by The British Museum & Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya - CSMVS, (formerly the Prince of Wales Museum of Western India).

Hello everyone, As you have noticed there have been no post on this group for a long time. It is because this page was created for the Mummy exhibition alone. Several times we have thought of closing this group but keep it open solely for its documentation of the Mummy: The Inside Story exhibition. We however urge you to follw us at www.facebook.com/CSMVS to be connected with us and updated about the various activities that the museum undertakes at a regular basis.

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya is a Grade I Heritage building of Mumbai. The museum is a major landmark in the Kala Ghoda Art Precinct, along with NGMA, Jehangir Art Gallery and Regal Cinema.

Nesperennub's snake amulet

One of the most intriguing features revealed by the 3D images of Nesperennub is a small object in the shape of a snake, which lies just above the right eye. It takes the form of the cobra, the hieroglyphic sign for the sound 'dj'. The object does not show up on conventional X-rays and seems to be made of a substance of relatively low density; wax is a possibility, since this was believed by the Egyptians to have magical properties and was used to fashion objects and figurines that were placed on the mummy.
