Museo Civico
Il Museo inaugurato nel 1980, è ospitato in alcuni ambienti ricavati dell'ex Convento dei Domenicani, attiguo alla Chiesa di Santa Maria della Consolazione, sapientemente restaurati, nel decennio successivo, su iniziativa del Comune di altomonte. Il museo documenta lo svolgersi di un importante capitolo della storia di Altomonte, del mecenatismo dei suoi feudatari e di un importante o
rdine religioso, quello dei Domenicani. Ricchissima la collezione, costituita da due distinti nuclei, quello medioevale e quello domenicano, formatisi in epoche storiche diverse. Si possono ammirare il San Ladislao, bellissima tempera su tavola dipinta dal maestro senese Simone Martini nel 1326, la tavola della Madonna delle Pere di Paolo Di Ciacio (allievo di Antonello da Messina), due tavolette di Bernardo Daddi, dipinti di scuola napoletana, paramenti sacri, sculture in legno ecc;. Di notevole interesse anche la biblioteca storica, con una ricca collezione di testi di teologia, diritto canonico, storia della Chiesa e codici di canti gregoriani, soprattutto del periodo della Controriforma. The Civic Museum of Altomonte was opened in 1980 to coincide with the celebration of the seventh centenary of the birth of Simone Martini, of which the museum houses his valuable work “St. Ladislaus.”
The collection is housed in rooms converted from some of the old cells of the former Dominican Monastery, built between 1342 and 1440, commissioned by Cobella Ruffo Sanseverino and is adjacent to the Church of Our Lady of Consolation. The monastery was expertly restored by an initiative taken by the town administration, and it is also the location of the Municipal and Historical Library. The Museum tells the story through its different exhibits; Medieval, Dominican, Sculptures, Silver, Vestments and Lapidary, unfolding an important chapter in the history of Altomonte: the patronage of the arts by the local feudal lords, Filippo Sangineto and Cobella Ruffo Sanseverino, and the attentive preservation by the religious order of the Dominicans.
