Sneak peek 👀

For the project “Geknetete Stadt”, Jankowski worked with a group of schoolchildren from Lübeck, Germany, to reactivate a dialogue between younger generations and the city in which they live. In the first phase of the project, Jankowski accompanied the children on a walk, asking them to change their status from human to object by pretending to embody an element of the urban fabric.
During the workshop that followed this initial intervention, Jankowski then asked the children to create self-portraits depicting themselves as those same objects using modeling clay. From these models, the artist subsequently produced brass sculptures, lacquered yellow like the originals but enlarged in scale. Each sculpture is accompanied by a sentence written by the child describing the chosen object, its purpose.
