On the occasion of ART CITY Bologna 2026, Augustas Serapinas presents a selection of sculptures from the series ‘Chair for the Invigilator’, first shown in 2019 at the 58th International Art Exhibition of the Venice Biennale, in the library of the Fondazione Federico Zeri.

The sculptures take the form of seats inspired by lifeguard stations or tennis umpire chairs. Raised approximately two metres above the floor and accessible by a ladder, they were originally conceived for cultural mediators, with the aim of making their presence within the exhibition space more visible.

Originally conceived in 2002 as a collaboration with iconic fashion photographer Francesco Scavullo, ‘Francesco by Francesco’ explored Francesco Vezzoli’s fascination with self-representation, glamour, and the performative construction of identity.

More than twenty years later, APALAZZOGALLERY is proud to present ‘Francesco by Francesco: Back to the Mirror’, an exhibition which proposes the same body of work (some of them, never shown before)— a series of photographic self-portraits and a series of crying needleworks, portraying the most glamorous Divas of the ‘80s — inviting viewers to revisit Vezzoli’s early reflections on image, transformation, and the pain of desire.

On the occasion of the opening, the artist will have a conversation with Michele Masneri at the gallery.

The exhibition opens with the impressive work ‘Famished Road’ (2023) by Ibrahim Mahama. He has constructed a monumental 5-by-10-metre wall made up of around 2,000 shoemaker’s boxes. Created especially for Voorlinden, the work almost obstructs the passageway, embodying histories while exuding life and hope.

The exhibition ‘Album 900 e furti d’archivio’ (‘Album 900 and Archive Thefts’) showcases Lucia Pescador’s approach of treating her work as an open-ended project, subject to continuous additions, changes, montages, and remountings. This method is reminiscent of Aby Warburg’s approach to cataloguing.

The show features 22 large, previously unpublished sheets from ‘Album 900’, comprising fragments from various eras, alongside 23 additional papers drawn from Pescador’s extensive archive: ‘Cartilagini’ (2022–2023), ‘Croste’ (2022), ‘Isole con la mano sinistra’ (1988), and ‘Esercizi con la mano sinistra’ (1989). These works introduce new configurations and contaminations, restoring the fluid and layered nature of the artist’s inventory.
