LONGARI ARTE MILANO GALLERIA D'ARTE ANTICA

LONGARI ARTE MILANO EARLY ITALIAN AND EUROPEAN WORKS OF ART
Longari Arte Milano was set up in Milan in the early 1950’s by Nella Longari, a historic and influential figure in the Italian antique world. Primitive Italian sculpture has been the area, in artistic and antique terms, that has been of most interest to the gallery over the years. Apart from this particular area, the gallery has also specialised in illuminated fragments and works of art from the 13th to the 16th centuries. Mario and Ruggero, Nella’s sons, as well as her grandson, Marco, have kept this love and enthusiasm alive along with a passion for study and research in the field of art. The gallery has long taken part in the most important exhibitions in Italy including, in particular, the Biennals of Florence, Milan and Rome, and is now involved in exhibitions on an international level. The annual exhibition, TEFAF in Maastricht, is a fine opportunity for everybody to benefit from a broader look at the world of art beyond the borders of Italy. Throughout its long history, Longari Arte Milano has worked with a whole host of important museums and institutions, as well as lending works of art to a variety of exhibitions all over Italy and abroad. In the 1970’s, the Vatican purchased a series of wooden sculptures that may still be seen today in different locations in the Holy See. More recently, the Getty Museum in Los Angeles and the Cleveland Museum have purchased a part of the collection of Italian, medieval and renaissance illuminated fragments. Among the exhibitions curated by the gallery we can cite the exhibition of wooden sculptures held at the Pirelli Centre in the 1970’s as well as the exhibition held in the gallery itself in Via Bigli entitled “From the Corradino Bible to Jacopo della Quercia. Sculpture and Italian Miniatures from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance”, in the mid-90’s and, lastly, the exhibition “A Crucifix from the 14th Century in Lucca – the Discovery of a Medieval Wooden Masterpiece”, in 2010, shown for a long period at Milan’s Museo Diocesano; all the exhibitions were accompanied by detailed catalogues. Every year, the Spunti per conversare (“Ideas for a Conversation”) are published, dedicated to the gallery’s latest acquisitions and intended for the joy of collectors everywhere as well as for museums and art libraries.

Her six bronze sculptures and five large paintings arise from an 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝘂𝗺𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻, from the tactile memory of the body, and from a true “body-to-body” confrontation with the material.

Former athlete and model, Malù makes knowledge of the body the very foundation of her aesthetics. She translates muscular dynamism into an embodied language, stating: «𝗔𝗿𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗻 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗮 𝗯𝗼𝗱𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗸𝘀». This gives rise to a ritual and intensely dialogic relationship with matter, restoring to artistic practice a primordial and vital dimension.

In the exhibition, her creations engage in intense dialogue with Masterpieces from Longari Arte Milano, such as 𝙈𝙖𝙙𝙤𝙣𝙣𝙖 𝙙𝙚𝙡𝙡𝙖 𝙈𝙞𝙨𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙘𝙤𝙧𝙙𝙞𝙖 (1540/1550), the large Chinese 𝙋𝙤𝙩𝙞𝙘𝙝𝙚 from the Qianlong period, and 𝙂𝙚𝙨𝙪' 𝘽𝙖𝙢𝙗𝙞𝙣𝙤 𝙗𝙚𝙣𝙚𝙙𝙞𝙘𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙚 from the 14th century.

👉Between the end of the 15th and the first decades of the 16th century, Veronese wooden sculpture experienced a season of exceptional artistic flourishing. The city panorama featured numerous workshops of woodcarvers active simultaneously, capable of responding to a demand that extended well beyond local borders, from Brescia and Bergamo to Vicenza and the entire southern Trentino.

In the rooms of the Scaliger Reggia, some of the most important documents of the period are currently on display: the 𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝘆𝗽𝘁𝘆𝗰𝗵 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗮𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗦𝗮𝗻 𝗟𝘂𝗰𝗮, in the Mantegna hall, a recent deposit of the Ministry of Culture, is an exceptional witness to the still late-Gothic world; the 𝗦𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗔𝗻𝗻𝗲 𝗠𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘇𝗮 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗽 𝗯𝘆 𝗚𝗶𝗼𝘃𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗶 𝗭𝗲𝗯𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗮, in the Liberale hall, and the 𝗔𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗹𝗲 𝗦𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗯𝘆 𝗟𝗲𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗼 𝗱𝗮 𝗩𝗲𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗮, in that of Benaglio.

The Brazilian artist unites visual arts, fashion and communication in a multidisciplinary journey. She graduated in Communication Sciences with a thesis on modern art, she has exhibited in international shows and her works are part of prestigious private collections from Los Angeles to Tokyo, from London to São Paulo.

Creator of the cultural project "Conversando con Malù" and author of the novel "Miranda" (2023), Malù Cruz Piani is a true total intellectual who transforms the pursuit of beauty into a deeply coherent existential and artistic practice.

The exhibition includes five large paintings and six bronze sculptures born from an intense hands-on confrontation with the material.

A powerful dialogue between contemporary energy and the timeless masterpieces of the Longari collection.
At the center of everything: 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝗿𝗲.

For you the first live images from the exhibition: a true explosion of energy. Contemporary art meets the history of art in a vibrant dialogue full of life.

Brazilian artist 𝗠𝗮𝗹𝘂' 𝗖𝗿𝘂𝘇 𝗣𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗶 — former athlete and model — presents five large paintings and six bronze sculptures born from an intense body-to-body dialogue with the material. “𝗔𝗿𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗻 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗮 𝗯𝗼𝗱𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗸𝘀,” she says.

🔥 Each work carries the kinetic tension she accumulates for weeks before releasing it in a powerful gesture.
Malù’s creations engage directly with timeless Masterpieces from Longari’s collection, including the "𝘔𝘢𝘥𝘰𝘯𝘯𝘢 𝘥𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘢 𝘔𝘪𝘴𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘰𝘳𝘥𝘪𝘢" (1540/1550), the monumental Chinese "𝘗𝘰𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘩𝘦" from the Qianlong period, and "𝘎𝘦𝘴𝘶' 𝘉𝘢𝘮𝘣𝘪𝘯𝘰 𝘣𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘥𝘪𝘤𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘦" by the Master of the Madonna of Sant’Agostino (Perugia, 14th century).

At the heart of everything is a powerful message: become who you are. An invitation to resist conformity and rediscover your true essence.

LIVE shots while we wait for you in the Gallery to live strong emotions in person! 🔥

We look forward to seeing you.
