Castello di Montecchio Emilia

Un po' meno conosciuto dei suoi più famosi vicini, ma inserito anch'esso in quella rete di castelli legati alla figura di Matilde di Canossa, il castello di Montecchio si colloca proprio al centro del paese. Vale la pena visitarlo, per la molteplicità di epoche di cui è testimonianza (dalle sepolture longobarde alle incisioni dei carcerati delle guerre mondiali) e per la cura con cui è stato resta

urato e conservato. Da fine settembre al 6 gennaio e da marzo a giugno, il castello è aperto tutte le domeniche e i festivi dalle 15.00 alle 19.00: è possibile visitare le sale accompagnati da una guida AR/S Archeosistemi soc. (le visite guidate partiranno alle ore 15, 16.30, 18; biglietto ingresso+visita 4€) oppure con visita in autonomia (ultimo ingresso 30 minuti prima della chiusura; biglietto 2€). Puoi accedere al percorso di visita anche nei giorni feriali, negli orari di apertura della Biblioteca Comunale al primo piano del Castello (ingresso sud): la visita è libera, ma il personale della biblioteca vigila sugli afflussi e le norme di sicurezza (ingresso 2€). Per gruppi e scolaresche è possibile effettuare visite guidate infrasettimanali, previa prenotazione presso Ar/s Archeosistemi al numero 0522-532094. A little less known than its more famous neighbors, but also part of that network of castles linked to the figure of Matilde di Canossa, the castle of Montecchio Emilia is located right in the center of the town, with its tower stands out on the square, the bells that mark the hours and the entrance hidden by the arcades. It deserves a visit, for the multiplicity of eras of which it is testimony (from Lombard burial ground to the traces of prisoners from the Risorgimento till the second world war) and for the care with which it has been restored and preserved. From September till January 6 and from March till June, the castle is open every Sunday and public holidays from 15.00 to 19.00: it's possible to visit the rooms accompanied by a guide which illustrates the history of the Castle (guided tours will start at 15, 16.30, 18; entrance ticket + visit € 4) or with independent visit (last admission 30 minutes before closing; ticket € 2). You can also access the visit itinerary on weekdays, during the opening hours of the Municipal Library on the first floor of the Castle (south entrance): during workdays the visit is only without guide, but the library staff is available for all the informations (admission € 2).
