Come nasce il Museo
Il Museo della Città e del Territorio nasce in seguito al restauro di una parte del Castello Acquaviva-Personè, un tempo adibita a uffici amministrativi, ed oggi sede di un percorso museale sulla storia di Nardò dal periodo Romano sino all’età contemporanea, con l’inserimento di importanti oggetti artistici di proprietà della Città di Nardò sin dal XVII secolo. Si è volutamente scelta questa ala del Castello, perché essa rappresenta il cuore dell’antico fortilizio ed anche la parte più antica di epoca angioina, poi ricostruita nel Rinascimento dalla famiglia Acquaviva-Aragona. Nella vocazione naturale del Castello come contenitore culturale, tale luogo arricchisce l’offerta culturale della città.
The Museum of the “Città e del Territorio” was created following the restoration of a part of the Acquaviva-Personè Castle, once used as municipal offices, and today the site of a museum itinerary on the history of Nardò from the Roman period up to the contemporary age, with the inclusion of important artistic works, owned by the City of Nardò since the XVII century. This floor of the Castle has been deliberately chosen because it represents the heart of the ancient fortress and also the oldest part of the Angevin period, later rebuilt in the Renaissance by the Acquaviva-Aragon family. Like the natural vocation of the Castle as a cultural container, this place enriches the cultural offer of the city.
