Until 25 July 2026
At
Lungotevere dei Vallati 8/9, Rome

Working across a wide range of media, including sculpture, photography, writing, film, and performance, Benoît Maire constructs an aesthetic system in which words, materials, and concepts emerge through visual and sculptural devices. His practice intertwines art and philosophy, making theory an autonomous form of art. While rooted in a rigorous conceptual approach, the artist maintains a constant engagement with the formal qualities of the work. His work draws on history, art history, philosophy, psychoanalysis, mathematics, and mythology, reconfiguring them within a stratified visual language.

Slimy Title One (2024) is part of a series of works in which various subjects either hold up or serve as a backdrop for the letters that make up the title Claque & Shill. This work is intended as a sort of self-celebratory manifesto in which the title becomes an autonomous subject, each characterized by an independent narrative connotation.
The words “Claque” and “Shill” refer to those figures who infiltrate an audience to shape its tastes and impressions. With these terms, Romano identifies the ambivalent feelings of belonging, identity, and personal affirmation as desires inherent to both the artistic community and interpersonal dynamics.

Cast Of Pillow (2013-2024) is a series of photographic works describing the physical interactions of some artist's friends with two polyurethane sculptures during their own creation process. The series tells a potential story of two ephemeral sculptures destined to crumble over time.

Cover Of Life, Baby Kenny, The Hunt For Friendship, Love And Success (2025) is a work conceived as a representation of a vinyl record cover; it refers to content that does not exist and remains merely evoked. The drawing is a childlike, cartoonish reinterpretation of Kenny Rogers, a Royal White Tiger born in 1999 in Arkansas and who died in 2008 due to poor health. Kenny Rogers was the result of planned inbreeding, a practice aimed at fueling the “wonder” industry. This subject occupies a central role in Romano’s work, as it embodies for the artist the tension between the desire to appear and unsuitability, a condition in which power and vulnerability coexist. The work depicts the tiger in various poses as it plays with a butterfly. The scene, and the accompanying text, allude to the ambivalent feelings of belonging, identity, and self-affirmation as desires inherent to both the artistic community and interpersonal dynamics.

Cast Of Pillow (2013-2014) is a series of photographic works (created in collaboration with Delfino Sisto Legnani) that depict the physical interactions of some of the artist’s friends with a polyurethane sculpture. The work represents the mold of a pillow destined to crumble over time. Of the sequence of images taken, only a series of close-ups of this process remains: hands that touch and examine, explore and tightly embrace an object that is nothing more than an abstract form of itself.

Federica Schiavo Gallery presents All The Synecdoches And Metonymies In The World Make Up One Great Metaphor, the first solo exhibition in Rome by Andrea Romano.

The title offers a reflection on language and reality as simultaneously fragile and poetic. The artist evokes the attempt to achieve a unified understanding of his personal trajectory - one that intertwines artistic practice and private life - but which ultimately manifests itself in fragmented forms, residues, and reflections. These fragments serve as a reminder of the impossibility of grasping its totality except through deviations and discontinuities.

The exhibition brings together works from different bodies of work developed concurrently over the years, showcasing recurring elements that intertwine, creating a dialogue between the various phases of his artistic research. The overlap and combination of mediums and languages reflect Romano's interest in realities in which multiple facets coexist, thereby resisting a singular definition of the artwork.
