History has no borders.

Today, in my museum, a visitor from Taiwan bought a Roman helmet.
Not as a souvenir.
But to wear it while visiting the place where Julius Caesar was assassinated — to honor his memory.

What struck me most is this:
someone who crossed half the world knows this story,
while many who live just a few steps away do not.

Moments like this remind me why history matters.
Why Rome still speaks.
And why the past, when truly understood, belongs to everyone.

I am constantly amazed by my visitors.
Grateful. And humbled.

One of the best speech ever made by Roman emperors in my opinion.

Claudius wanted to assimilate cultures and worthy people.

When Rome failed to do so, brought Rome to Its fall (It's not the only reason of course).

In 1755 a scholar named Winckelmann arrived in Rome. The godess Artemis statue was found in Pompei and Winckelmann was on the scene. On this statue red paint could clearly be seen on the hair, the sandals, and the strap of her quiver. Since the statue was painted, the scholar assumed the goddess was a sculpture made by other cultures (Etruscan, Assyrian, etc.). Because everybody knew, at that time, roman statues were compeltely white.

Winckelmann himself said that "colour could make something more appealing, but It was not beautiful in itself. The whiter the body the more beautiful It is".

Today we know Winckelmann was wrong, I agree with him though, marble statues without any color are way more beautiful and elegant.

I always wonder what a citizen of ancient Rome would think of our modern cities...
