Vitruvius, in “De Architectura”, recounts that the Greek sculptor Callimachus, while passing by the tomb of a young woman in Corinth, noticed an acanthus plant growing around a votive basket placed on her grave.
Inspired by this image, he created the famous Corinthian capital.
