𝐑𝐨𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐭 𝐂𝐚𝐩𝐚 (1913–1954)

Il 𝟐𝟓 𝐦𝐚𝐠𝐠𝐢𝐨 𝟏𝟗𝟓𝟒 moriva in Indocina Robert Capa, uno dei più grandi fotoreporter del Novecento.

Dalla Guerra civile sp****la alla Seconda guerra mondiale, fino agli ultimi conflitti seguiti come inviato, Capa raccontò la guerra stando accanto ai soldati, ai civili e alle vittime dei combattimenti.

Nell'estate del 1943 seguì la campagna di Sicilia e documentò la 𝐁𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐚𝐠𝐥𝐢𝐚 𝐝𝐢 𝐓𝐫𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐚, lasciando alcune delle testimonianze fotografiche più importanti di quei giorni.

Nel suo celebre libro 𝐋𝐞𝐠𝐠𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞 𝐟𝐮𝐨𝐫𝐢 𝐟𝐮𝐨𝐜𝐨 ricordò così quei combattimenti:

Le fotografie conservate nel 𝐌𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐨 𝐝𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐚 𝐅𝐨𝐭𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐟𝐢𝐚 𝐝𝐢 𝐑𝐨𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐭 𝐂𝐚𝐩𝐚 𝐝𝐢 𝐓𝐫𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐚 continuano ancora oggi a raccontare non soltanto la storia della guerra, ma soprattutto le storie delle persone che la vissero.

Siamo sempre felici quando il nostro museo diventa un luogo di incontro internazionale.

Negli ultimi giorni abbiamo avuto il piacere di accogliere ospiti provenienti dal Regno Unito e dall’Austria, interessati alla storia europea del Novecento, alla fotografia di guerra e al lavoro di Robert Capa in Sicilia.

La visita non è stata soltanto un momento di fruizione, ma soprattutto un’occasione di scambio: idee, domande e punti di vista diversi sulla guerra, sulla memoria e sul ruolo della fotografia come documento storico.

Un segnale significativo è stato ritrovare alcuni visitatori inglesi, tornati per condividere l’esperienza del museo con nuovi ospiti.
Quando un museo diventa un luogo in cui si sceglie di tornare, il dialogo continua.

We are always pleased when our museum becomes a place of international exchange.

In recent days, we had the pleasure of welcoming visitors from the United Kingdom and Austria, all deeply interested in twentieth-century European history, war photography, and Robert Capa’s work in Sicily.

Their visit was not only about viewing the exhibition, but about sharing ideas and perspectives on war, memory, and photography as a historical document.

A meaningful sign was meeting again some British visitors we had already welcomed, who returned to share the museum experience with new guests.
When people choose to come back, it means that dialogue truly matters.

Visiting the museum means experiencing not only photographs, but also the stories of men, women, and children caught in Operation Husky in the summer of 1943. Each room is an encounter with truth, captured in Capa’s powerful lens.

Our cultural operators guide visitors through a journey that connects Capa’s art to the Battle of Troina, one of the toughest and most decisive battles of the Sicilian campaign.

E proprio in quell’autenticità, cruda e senza filtri, che le sue fotografie oggi sono memoria collettiva.
