🏆 K11 Art Foundation Prize: Boundary Breaker — Lu Yang

Can our digital footprints be read as a contemporary metaphor for reincarnation?

🌟 As winner of the inaugural K11 Art Foundation (KAF) Prize: Boundary Breaker, Lu Yang () continues to dismantle the walls between biological reality and digital fantasy. From the digital avatars of the DOKU reality and digital fantasy to the current show at Espace Louis Vuitton Venezia “DOKU The Illusion”, the artist transforms conceptual reflections on impermanence into intense, immersive audiovisual experiences.

Drawing from Buddhist wisdom on impermanence and illusion, Lu Yang responds to a contemporary world increasingly reshaped by AI, cybernetics, digital identity, and virtual realities. As boundaries between the virtual and the real dissolve, how should we reimagine our definition of the ‘self’? 🪐✨

K11 Art Foundation Salon landed in Paris 🇫🇷 on Oct 23 during Paris Art Week! Co-presented by and

Vivien Zhang has shared how she explores painting in a digital age, navigating its dialogue with technology — a negotiation that has preoccupied artists since the advent of photography and projection. An act of embracing rather than resisting.

While Alexis shared how new technologies clash with ancestral practices, pushing a homogenized Western culture. Yet, how can this global hegemony be disrupted to empower local communities? Techno-vernacular artists are reclaiming heritage in the digital age, using technology to amplify underrepresented voices. They battle cultural uniformity and climate crises by drawing from the past.

Thanks to the moderator John Tain for sparking deeper insights. Under his guidance, the speakers’ views collided, revealing contemporary art’s vibrant ecosystem—from tech-driven community empowerment to intimate canvas practices seeking inner peace.

Grateful for everyone’s continued support to our K11 Art Foundation Salon!
