所縁の土を掘り、その個性と対話を重ねながら、かたちを生み出してきた清水志郎。時に用途や役割に収まることなく、土が持つ表情に導かれるように生まれる作品は、ただそこにあることで確かな存在感を放ち、またあるいは、使い手の想像力によって器として瑞々しい景色を獲得するのです。

本展では、「用途を限定しないかたち」をテーマに制作された新作をご紹介します。陶に宿る豊かな余白は、それを手にする人それぞれの感性に、静かに委ねられています。

1979年、京都府生まれ。京都精華大学卒業後、祖父・清水卯一、父・清水保孝のもとで制作。2010年より土の採取を始め、器や茶陶、オブジェなどを手掛ける。土の採取から焼成まで一貫して行い、国内外で作品を発表。

Unconfined by conventional function or purpose, his works are guided by the inherent expressions of the clay. Each piece possesses a quiet presence simply by existing, while also taking on a fresh and vivid expression as a vessel through the imagination of those who use it.

Born in Kyoto Prefecture in 1979. After graduating from Kyoto Seika University, he worked under his grandfather, Uichi Shimizu, and his father, Yasutaka Shimizu. Managing the entire process from clay collection to firing, he presents his work both in Japan and internationally.

西川土（西川さんが新築を建てる前に清水さんに送った土）の大壷と、宮津海土の溶けた蕎麦猪口を焼いた陶のオブジェ。五条馬町紫香楽土の大鉢や東山土の花瓶も、清水志郎作品ならではの圧倒的な存在感を放っています。

所縁の土を掘り、その個性と対話を重ねながら、かたちを生み出してきた清水志郎。時に用途や役割に収まることなく、土が持つ表情に導かれるように生まれる作品は、ただそこにあることで確かな存在感を放ち、またあるいは、使い手の想像力によって器として瑞々しい景色を獲得するのです。

本展では、「用途を限定しないかたち」をテーマに制作された新作をご紹介します。陶に宿る豊かな余白は、それを手にする人それぞれの感性に、静かに委ねられています。

PROFILE
清水志郎／Shiro Shimizu
1979年、京都府生まれ。京都精華大学卒業後、祖父・清水卯一、父・清水保孝のもとで制作。2010年より土の採取を始め、器や茶陶、オブジェなどを手掛ける。土の採取から焼成まで一貫して行い、国内外で作品を発表。

Shiro Shimizu Solo Exhibition

Shiro Shimizu creates forms by digging clay from places with which he has a deep connection, engaging in an ongoing dialogue with the unique character of the material.

Unconfined by conventional function or purpose, his works are guided by the inherent expressions of the clay. Each piece possesses a quiet presence simply by existing, while also taking on a fresh and vivid expression as a vessel through the imagination of those who use it.

This exhibition presents new works created under the theme of “forms not defined by function.” The rich sense of openness held within these works is quietly entrusted to the individual sensibilities of those who encounter them.

PROFILE
Shiro Shimizu
Born in Kyoto Prefecture in 1979. After graduating from Kyoto Seika University, he worked under his grandfather, Uichi Shimizu, and his father, Yasutaka Shimizu. Since 2010, he has gathered clay himself to create vessels, tea ware, and sculptural objects. Managing the entire process from clay collection to firing, he presents his work both in Japan and internationally.
