Charlotte Perriand
Dining table in enameled sheet metal set on trestles.
Designed for the Cachette residence, Arc 1600.
1970
A demountable dining table designed for the residence “La Cachette” at Arc 1600. Delivered in 1970 for a very limited number of
apartments, fewer than 20 examples of this table were produced at the time. It is regarded as one of the rarest and most exceptional masterpieces in Charlotte Perriand’s nearly 70-year career as a furniture designer.
The enamelled tabletop was manufactured between 1969 and 1970 at an enamelling factory in Saint-Maurice, Val-de-Marne, just outside Paris. The leg structure, secured with leather straps, is made of Sipo, a premium hardwood native to West Africa, selected for its exceptional durability and water resistance, enabling it to withstand the harsh conditions of the mountain environment.
Long considered an unpublished work by Charlotte Perriand, the table was documented for the first time in 2019 in Charlotte Perriand: Complete Works, Volume 4. It was also presented in the exhibition Charlotte Perriand. La montagne re-créative, held at the Musée de Grenoble until this summer.
