Michiko van de velde、a Brussels-based artist with Belgian and Japanese roots, and Beya Rebaï, a French artist based in Paris, come together in After the Landscape, a two-person exhibition featuring two young artists working in Europe.
Both artists begin with encounters with nature and landscape. Rather than simply depicting what they see before them, however, they reinterpret the light, color, atmosphere, time and memories that remain from those experiences, transforming them through their own sensibilities into works of art. Michiko draws on shifting light and the sensations of fleeting moments to explore time, perception, and memory. Beya, meanwhile, reconstructs compositions and forms found in nature through vivid colors of her own choosing.
The title After the Landscape reflects the exhibition’s focus not on landscape itself, but on what remains after seeing a landscape and how that experience takes form as art. Though they come from different backgrounds and work through different forms of expression, both artists respond sensitively to quiet moments and memories of place. This exhibition presents new landscapes born from the resonance between their fresh and distinctive sensibilities.
To be released on Monday, October 19
