当館は、初代根津嘉一郎の遺志によって東京・南青山に1941年開館。国宝7件、重要文化財87件を含む、日本・東洋の優品を約7,600件を収蔵。絵画、書蹟、彫刻、陶磁、漆工、染色、考古など多岐にわたる収蔵品を、毎回テーマの異なる年7回の展覧会で展示。約2万㎡の日本庭園には茶室が4室点在し、季節の移り変わりと共に、散策も楽しめます。

【5/30（土）開幕：美術のなかの文字】
今日5/29は #幸福の日 だそうですね。緑がまぶしいです。第７回目の「＃はじめての古美術鑑賞：美術のなかの文字」展開幕を明日に控え、館内外（まだ）絶賛作業中です。
書そのものの作品からあえて離れて、作品の中に記され、表され、時に作品そのものを描く「文字」に着目する今回展には、重要文化財や初めてそろって展示される歌絵の名品など、絵画と工芸から幅広く全52件（一部展示替えあり）が登場。古美術鑑賞にこんなポイントもあるんだ！、という楽しさをお伝えできれば幸いです。
スムーズなご入館には当館ウェブサイトからの事前予約がお勧めです（一般1400円、学生600円。当日券は＋200円）。皆様のお越しをお待ちしております。

特別展「光琳派－国宝「燕子花図」と尾形光琳のフォロワーたち－」は5/10で終了しました。現在次回展「はじめての古美術鑑賞－美術のなかの文字－」（5/30-7/12）準備のため、庭園、NEZUCAFEを含む全館休館中です。5/30（土）からまた皆様のお越しをお待ちしております。今日の庭園から、仲良しのカルガモ夫妻をご覧ください。

【光琳派：尾形兄弟のコラボ】*English below.
乾山焼の重要なラインナップに、兄・光琳との合作があります。本作は、角皿の見込みに銹絵で光琳が梅を描き、乾山が林和靖の詩を書したもの。梅の幹のフレームアウトと、垂直や対角線を意識した枝の構成や、光琳の署名と乾山の書のそれぞれ効果的なレイアウトに兄弟の阿吽の呼吸が感じられます。尾形兄弟、そしてそれぞれの弟子たちを「光琳派」とご提示した今回展も今日で終了です。ご来館ありがとうございました。
5月11日（月）〜29日（金）は、次回展「はじめての古美術鑑賞：美術のなかの文字」準備のため、庭園、NEZUCAFEを含む全館休館です。書そのものではなく、絵画や工芸作品の中の文字に注目して古美術鑑賞のポイントをわかりやすくご紹介いたします。どうぞお楽しみに。

[Artist Brothers: Kōrin and Kenzan]
Among the most important works in Kenzan’s oeuvre are his collaborations with his elder brother, Kōrin. On the front of this square dish, Kōrin painted a plum tree in underglaze iron, while Kenzan inscribed a poem by Lin Hejing. The plum trunk extending beyond the frame, the vertically and diagonally arranged branches, as well as the placement of Kōrin’s signature and Kenzan’s calligraphy all attest to the harmonious rapport between the two brothers.

【尾形乾山と渡辺始興】＊English below.
銹絵で岩陰に咲く蘭を描き、左端に漢詩が書かれた角皿。乾山のやきものらしい、書と絵の取り合わせですが、この皿の裏面には乾山によって「表の対句（一連）は画師の渡辺素信に書かせた」旨が記されています。その書風が渡辺始興の自画賛と同じと見られることから、渡辺素信と渡辺始興が同一人物と有力視されることとなった重要な作品です。他の作品からも始興が乾山焼の絵付けに長期間関わったことがわかります。（-5/10）

[Kōrin School: Ceramics]
Ogata Kenzan is a younger brother of Kōrin and the potter who is famous for its witty combination of calligraphy and painting. This square dish features an iron painting of orchids blooming in the shadow of a rock as well as a Chinese poem inscribed along the left edge. On the reverse, Kenzan writes: “I asked the painter Watanabe Soshin to inscribe the couplet on the front.” The fact that the calligraphic style accords with the self-inscriptions on Watanabe Shikō’s own paintings reinforces the theory that Watanabe Soshin and Watanabe Shikō were the same person. 【「光琳三世」の実像：立林何帠】
光琳派の中でもひときわ謎めいた存在の何帠（かげい）。確かなのはある時期に江戸に出て、そこで晩年の乾山に師事したことです。乾山から、光琳が写した宗達の扇面画の巻物を与えられたこともあり、酒井抱一は「光琳三世」と呼び評価しました。今回展では今に伝わる多様なその画風をご紹介します。(-5/10)

[The reality behind the “third-generation Kōrin”:
Tatebayashi Kagei]
Among the painters associated with the Kōrin School, Tatebayashi Kagei stands out as a figure full of enigmas. What can be ascertained is that at some point he moved to Edo and studied under Ogata Kenzan, a younger brother of Kōrin. Kagei is further known to have received from Kenzan a handscroll in which Kōrin had copied fan paintings by Sōtatsu. It was Sakai Hōitsu who regarded Kagei as the “third-generation Kōrin.”
Through his various works at this exhibition, we may come closer to the reality of the painter. (-5/10)
