KEI ISHIKAWA
- Mashiko's Legacy, Vessels Born Anew -
2026 Sep. 22 - Oct. 3
Born in Mashiko and raised with its clay, Kei Ishikawa has always been deeply rooted in the land.
From an early age, he was surrounded by folk crafts from Africa, India, and other parts of the world, naturally absorbing their forms, colors, and the beauty of the handmade.
Through his study of the Way of Tea, Ishikawa has developed a keen awareness of how vessels are used, and of the presence they acquire once they pass into the hands of others. With this perspective, he continues to engage with the materials and techniques that have long been passed down in Mashiko.
Rooted in the tradition of Mashiko ware, his work brings together memories of folk craft and the sensibility of a practitioner of tea, seeking to create something within Mashiko that has not yet been seen.
These are vessels that could only be made by Kei Ishikawa.
Featuring recent works exploring noyaki (open firing) and basho-yu (banana-fiber ash glaze), this exhibition marks Ishikawa’s first solo presentation at Gallery HANNA.
We warmly invite you to view the exhibition.
