M.d.M | Nov. with Choi Somang

최소망 작가는 이번 전시 '가닿음'에서 보이지 않는 관계들이 어떻게 세계를 이루는지 그리고 그 관계 속에서 '나'라는 존재가 어떻게 감각되는지를 회화로 탐구합니다.

그녀에게 세계는 하나의 신체처럼 유기적으로 연결되어 있습니다. 시간, 온도, 환경, 감정, 욕구 같은 요소들은 눈에 보이지 않아도 서로를 밀고 당기며 끝없이 영향을 주고받습니다. 그 흐름은 곰팡이 처럼 번지고, 공기처럼 스며들고, 습도처럼 피부에 닿는 감각으로 다가옵니다.

작가는 이러한 유기적 관계를 캔버스 안에서 '이미지들의 생태계'로 구축합니다. 먼저 그려진 형상은 다음 이미지를 결정하며, 색과 굴곡과 덩어리가 서로를 밀어내고 끌어당기며 증식합니다.
이 상호작용의 반복은 결국 작가가 인식하는 세계 즉, '관계의 감각'을 시각적으로 드러냅니다.

'가닿음'은 끝없이 순환하는 이미지들 사이에서 관계가 만들어지고 사라지고 다시 이어지는 순간을 포착한 전시입니다. 작품 속 살아있는 존재들은 서로를 스쳐 지나가고, 번지고, 스며들며 작가가 세계와 맺는 가장 깊은 감각을 조용히 증언합니다.

Choi Somang presents '가닿음' in this month’s exhibition,
unfolding a visual exploration of the unseen relationships
that shape the world and the way her own existence is sensed within them.

For the artist, the world operates like a single living body.
Time, temperature, emotion, desire, environment,
and countless invisible forces constantly influence one another,
expanding like mold, drifting like air,
and settling on the skin like humidity.

Her canvas becomes an ecosystem of images.
Each form affects the next,
guiding the colors, textures, and curves that follow.
Through this ongoing interaction and proliferation,
the artist visualizes how relationships move, break, return,
and ultimately reveal the organic system she perceives as the world.

'가닿음' captures these subtle exchanges,
where images touch, dissolve, collide, and grow.
They embody the intimate sensation of how the artist encounters the world,
and how the world, in turn, quietly reaches back.

임하연 작가는 고통 속에서 발견한 미세한 아름다움을 창작의 원천으로 삼는다. 그녀의 작업은 무거운 흑백의 세계를 바탕으로, 순간적으로 포착된 감정과 무의식의 흐름을 기록하며, 우연성과 비논리 속에서 살아 숨 쉬는 장면들을 펼쳐 보인다. 삶의 균열에서 태어난 감정들은 필터를 거쳐 남은 순수한 본질로 응축되며, 한지 위에 에어브러쉬를 이용해 안착된 먹의 안개는 순간이자 영원이라는 두 가지 시간성을 동시에 담아낸다.

그녀는 연극에서 영감을 얻어, 무대의 공간성과 배우의 몸짓처럼 동적인 감정을 시각화한다. 그녀에게 예술은 안정제이자 번역기이며, 내면 깊숙한 곳의 목소리를 표현하는 창구다. 작업의 출발점은 자기 자신의 감정을 인정하고 받아들이려는 깊은 내면의 필요에서 비롯되었다. 삶의 관계 속에서도 타인의 시선이 아니라 자신의 감정에 충실하고자 하는 태도는, 작가의 세계관을 단단하게 지탱하는 중심축이 된다.

사소한 행복을 소중히 여기고, 힘든 순간에는 마음껏 울 수 있어야 한다는 그녀의 믿음은, 고통을 견디며 점차 단단해지는 존재들을 향한 조용한 응원으로 변주된다. 임하연 작가는 자신을 둘러싼 불완전함과 상처들을 작품 속에 솔직하게 녹여내며, 누구도 대신할 수 없는 고유한 풍경을 구축해 나가고 있다.

Lim Hayun draws from the fragile beauty discovered within pain, making it the wellspring of her artistic practice. Rooted in a heavy black-and-white world, her work captures fleeting emotions and unconscious impulses, weaving together scenes born from randomness and illogicality. Through a filtering process, these emotions are distilled into pure essence, and the mist of ink, delicately sprayed onto hanji paper through an airbrush, embodies both the ephemeral and the eternal within a single moment.

Inspired by the theater, Lim visualizes dynamic emotions through spatiality and movement, much like the actor’s bodily expressions on stage. For her, art functions as a stabilizer, a translator, and a window into the innermost voice of the self.Her journey begins with a deep inner need to acknowledge and embrace her own emotions. Choosing to remain faithful to her internal landscape rather than external judgment, Lim builds a resilient worldview grounded in authenticity.

She cherishes small moments of happiness, embraces tears when needed, and believes in the quiet power of those who, through struggle, grow stronger over time. Lim Hayun’s work reflects a candid exploration of imperfection and pain, weaving an irreplaceable emotional landscape that is entirely her own.

이현학 작가는 대중매체와 미디어에서 포착한 다양한 인물, 문화, 조형적 요소들을 기반으로 새로운 서사를 구성한다. 그는 때로는 원형을 유지하고, 때로는 의도적으로 재조합하여 자신만의 조형 언어를 구축해간다. 기본 매체로 연필과 샤프를 고집하는 이유는, 일본 만화의 세밀한 펜선과 고도의 완성도를 지닌 연필 인물화에서 깊은 영향을 받아온 작업적 맥락 때문이다.

이현학의 작업은 디테일과 밀도를 중시한다. 섬세하게 쌓아올린 선들은 단순한 묘사를 넘어, 하나의 이야기를 품은 장면으로 확장된다. 그에게 재료는 표현의 도구일 뿐 제약이 아니며, 필요에 따라 다양한 매체를 자유롭게 활용해 작품의 완성도를 높인다.

특정한 경계에 얽매이지 않고, 이야기가 살아 숨 쉬는 화면을 구축해가는 이현학의 작업은, 익숙한 이미지 속에서 새로운 의미를 발견하게 하고, 관람자에게 또 다른 시선의 가능성을 제시한다.

Lee Hyeonhak constructs new narratives by reconfiguring a wide range of figures, cultures, and sculptural elements captured through mass media and contemporary imagery. Sometimes preserving the original form and sometimes deliberately rearranging it, he builds his own visual language rooted in reinterpretation. His primary mediums, pencil and mechanical pencil, reflect his early influences from the intricate pen lines of Japanese manga and the high craftsmanship of hyper-detailed pencil portraiture.

Detail and density are central to Lee’s practice. Each meticulously layered line transcends mere depiction, unfolding into scenes imbued with narrative weight. For Lee, materials serve as tools rather than limitations; he freely incorporates any medium necessary to achieve the depth and completeness of expression he seeks.

By refusing to be confined by strict boundaries, Lee creates spaces where familiar images are reborn with new meanings, offering viewers fresh perspectives and unseen possibilities.

이주영 작가는 꽃이 지닌 아름다움과 그로부터 파생되는 감정적 울림에 주목한다. 그녀에게 꽃은 단순한 오브제를 넘어, 공간과 일상에 자연스럽게 스며들어 기쁨과 행복을 더욱 특별하게 만들어주는 존재이다. 그녀의 작업은 꽃을 다양한 방식으로 경험할 수 있도록 제안하며, 우리로 하여금 순간의 소중함과 자연이 선사하는 가치를 새롭게 인식하게 만든다.

대표작인 Eternal Crystal Bloom 은 꽃의 조화로움을 레이어(layer)라는 구조를 통해 시각화한 작품이다. 서로 다른 꽃들이 하나의 조화를 이루는 모습처럼, 투명한 레진 안에 생화를 담고, 아크릴을 레이저 커팅하여 층층이 쌓아 올린 특별한 형태의 화분디자인은 시간의 흐름 속에서도 변치 않는 아름다움을 상징한다. 작가는 꽃의 찬란한 순간을 포착해 영원히 간직하고자 하며, 이를 통해 공간과 사람이 꽃과 공존하는 의미를 되새긴다.

그녀의 작업은 일상의 한 부분이자 감성의 확장이다. 시간이 지나도 사라지지 않는 감정의 아름다움을, 꽃이라는 존재를 통해 조용히 이야기하고 있다.

Jooyoung Lee focuses on the beauty of flowers and the emotional resonance they evoke. To her, flowers are more than mere objects they gently permeate everyday spaces, enhancing joy and happiness in meaningful ways. Her work invites viewers to experience flowers through various forms, encouraging a renewed appreciation for the fleeting beauty of the moment and the value that nature offers.

Her signature piece, Eternal Crystal Bloom, visualizes the harmony of flowers through a layered structure. Just as diverse blooms form a unified whole, Lee encapsulates real flowers in transparent resin and constructs unique flower pot forms by laser-cutting acrylic sheets, stacking them in layers. This technique symbolizes enduring beauty, unaltered by the passage of time. By capturing the radiant moment of flowers, the artist preserves their essence eternally, offering a poetic reflection on the coexistence of people, spaces, and nature.

우갱 작가의 작업은 ‘제목’에서 시작됩니다. 때로는 그림보다 제목이 먼저, 때로는 제목이 그림을 완성합니다. 짧은 문장 안에 담긴 농담과 철학, 가벼운 유머 속에 스며든 진심이 천천히 그림 위로 배어납니다.

작가의 전시는 그래서 ‘인문학의 완성’입니다. 긴 설명이나 개념어 없이도, 한마디 제목이 말을 걸고 관객은 웃거나, 멈춰 서거나, 혹은 곱씹게 됩니다.

그림 앞에서 당신이 가장 먼저 하게 될 말, “그래서… 제목이 뭔데?” 바로 그 순간 부터 우갱 작가의 작품은 시작됩니다. 설명보다 한 번 더 그림을 보게 만드는 작가, 말보다 ‘감각’으로 전달하는 작가, 그것이 우갱입니다.

For Woogaeng, everything begins with a title. Sometimes the title comes first, and other times it becomes the finishing touch. Witty, playful, and occasionally poetic, her titles carry a subtle weight that gently reframes the viewer’s gaze.

Woogaeng’s practice doesn’t rely on lengthy narratives or conceptual jargon. Instead, she invites the audience to pause, smile, and ponder often with just a few well placed words. His exhibitions are, in her words, “the completion of humanities” not through dense theory, but through the simple act of naming.

So if you find yourself asking, “Wait... what’s the title?” that’s when his work truly begins. Woogaeng is an artist who believes that, sometimes, looking once more at the artwork is worth more than a thousand words.

나은혜 작가는 근대화와 서구화의 흐름 속에서 ‘낡은 것’으로 치부되며 소외된 한국 고유의 전통 문화와 사유 체계에 주목한다. 오랜 시간 축적되어온 우리 고유의 미의식과 정서가 서양 중심의 가치판단 아래 배제되어온 현실에 문제의식을 가지고, 그 안에 내재된 미적 감각과 철학을 오늘날 다시금 성찰하는 작업을 이어간다.

작가에게 있어 ‘전통’이란 단순한 형식의 차용이나 과거의 재현이 아니라, 우리가 어디에서 왔고 어떤 존재로 살아가고 있는지를 되묻는 하나의 사유 방식이다. 잊혀지고 지워져가는 문화의 기억을 다시 불러오고, 그 가치를 재조명하는 과정은 곧, 우리 자신을 이해하고 성찰하는 방법이자 현재를 더 깊이 살아가기 위한 실천이기도 하다.

작품 속에 담긴 조형은 단순히 옛것의 재현이 아니라, 당대의 관점에서 다시 해석되고 재조합된 ‘살아있는 전통’으로 존재한다. 이처럼 나은혜 작가는 과거와 현재의 경계를 유연하게 오가며, 우리 고유의 미감을 통해 동시대 예술에 새로운 사유의 틀을 제시한다.

Na Eunhye is an artist who turns her gaze toward Korea’s own traditional aesthetics and cultural sentiments elements that have long been marginalized or dismissed as “old-fashioned” in the face of modernization and Westernization. Her practice stems from a deep critical awareness of how Korean heritage has been overlooked and under-researched in contemporary discourse, and she strives to reclaim its value through a contemporary lens.

For Na, tradition is not merely a style or visual motif but a system of thought one that helps us understand who we are and where we come from. By reexamining and recontextualizing cultural forms that are fading or forgotten, she opens a space for reflection and redefinition of Korean identity in the present moment.

Her work does not replicate the past but rather engages in a dynamic dialogue with it. The traditional becomes “alive” again transformed through reinterpretation, layered meanings, and contemporary sensibility. Through this, Na Eunhye proposes an alternative aesthetic framework rooted in Korean sensibility, offering a new way of thinking within contemporary art.

김환 작가는 ‘행복’이라는 보편적이면서도 철학적인 주제를 중심으로, 내면의 파동과 색채를 통해 감각적이고도 명상적인 회화를 구현하는 작가입니다. 그는 화면 위에 흐르는 빛과 색의 움직임을 통해 지금 이 순간의 행복, 존재의 깊이, 감정의 진폭을 사유하게 만듭니다. 작가에게 있어 예술은 단순한 시각적 즐거움을 넘어, 삶과 존재를 바라보는 철학적 사유의 도구입니다.

그의 대표 시리즈인 〈Mind Spectrum〉은 이러한 무의식의 층을 색채의 스펙트럼으로 그려내는 작업입니다. 김환은 아크릴과 안료파우더, 오일, 먹, 구아슈 등 다양한 재료를 실험하며, 층층이 쌓아올린 물성과 그 질감을 통해 관람자가 내면의 에너지를 '느끼는' 방식으로 소통하길 지향합니다. 때로는 잉크가 번지고, 때로는 흔적이 겹쳐지며, 그의 화면은 감정과 의식의 결절점이자, 치유와 회복의 장소로 기능합니다.

Kim Hwan is a painter who delves into the universal yet deeply philosophical theme of “happiness.” Through waves of light and color, his work evokes the present moment’s serenity and emotional resonance. For the artist, painting is not merely a visual pleasure it is a contemplative tool to explore life, existence, and the inner self.

Kim’s signature series, 〈Mind Spectrum〉, visualizes these internal vibrations through flowing layers of pigment. Using acrylic, pigment powder, oil, ink, and gouache, he builds up textured surfaces that invite viewers to feel the work, rather than just observe it. Through blending, pooling, layering, and scraping, each piece becomes a site where emotion and memory emerge physically on the canvas.

After his experimental solo exhibition 〈마음大路〉, Kim has embraced a freer, more expansive approach to both materials and scale. His recent works push the boundaries of painting, transcending form and structure to explore what lies beyond both in art and in self awareness.

경나현 작가는 일상 속에서 무심히 스쳐 지나가는 자연의 찰나에 주목한다. 빗방울이 맺히고, 이슬이 생기고, 이내 사라지는 순간처럼, 평범한 시간 감각으로는 포착할 수 없는 미세한 변화들을 감각적으로 기록하고자 한다. 그의 작업은 이러한 순간들을 조형 언어로 번역하는 과정이며, 동시에 '기억의 재현'과 '시간의 구조화'를 시도하는 여정이다.

스테인리스 스틸, 레진, 유리구슬 등 인공적인 재료를 주로 사용하지만, 오히려 이러한 물질들은 자연의 섬세한 감각을 더욱 선명하게 드러내는 역할을 한다. 경나현은 차가운 물성 위에 투명한 흔적을 남기며 자연과 인간, 인공과 유기 사이의 경계를 흐릿하게 만든다. 특히 빛, 물, 공기처럼 손에 잡히지 않는 요소들을 시각화함으로써, 관람자가 작품 앞에 섰을 때 잊고 지냈던 어떤 순간의 감각이 몸으로 되살아나는 경험을 선사하고자 한다.

그녀의 대표적인 작업인 'Moment: Raindrop Table'은 비 오는 날 창가를 바라보며 느꼈던 정적이고 서정적인 감각을 물방울 형태로 재현하고, '새벽이슬'은 하루가 시작되기 직전의 미묘한 공기와 빛, 그리고 식물에 맺힌 이슬방울을 통해 새로운 시작의 순간을 실내로 끌어온다. 경나현은 사라지기 쉬운 일상의 아름다움을 포착하고 이를 감각적으로 응축하는 작업을 통해, 우리로 하여금 익숙한 세계를 다시 바라보게 만든다.

Kyung Nahyun focuses on capturing fleeting moments of nature that often pass unnoticed in everyday life. Moments like raindrops forming, dew settling, and then vanishing—these delicate shifts, imperceptible to the ordinary sense of time, leave a lingering sensory impression. Her work translates such ephemeral moments into a sculptural language, becoming an act of "reconstructing memory" and "structuring time."

While utilizing industrial materials such as stainless steel, resin, and glass beads, Kyung Nahyun brings the subtle sensibilities of nature into sharper relief. By leaving transparent traces upon cold surfaces, she blurs the boundaries between nature and humanity, between the artificial and the organic. Her practice focuses on visualizing intangible elements like light, water, and air, creating experiences where viewers can physically reconnect with forgotten sensations upon encountering her works.

강로사 작가는 익숙한 질서의 틈에서 감각이 방향을 잃는 순간을 포착한다. 그녀의 작업은 흑백의 조형 언어를 통해 감각을 소거하는 대신, 오히려 더욱 날카롭게 몰입하도록 유도한다. 명확하지 않은 윤곽과 왜곡된 시선은 존재의 불안정한 구조를 드러내며, 절제된 색채는 잔잔하지만 선명하게 감정의 불꽃을 환기시킨다. 특히 영상 작업에서는 직접 제작한 음악과 내레이션이 얽혀 하나의 파편적 서사를 구성하고, 그 사이사이 틈에서 새로운 감각이 태어난다.

반복적으로 등장하는 ‘발에 불이 붙은 사람’은 고통이 아름다움으로 소비되는 왜곡된 시선을 상징한다. 멀리서 보면 춤추는 듯한 경쾌한 몸짓이지만, 가까이 다가서면 고통에 몸부림치는 진실이 드러난다. 강로사는 이 간극을 통해 현실의 감정이 어떻게 미학으로 전환되는지를 탐색한다. 그녀의 작업은 무감각한 동정, 거리감 있는 욕망이 어떻게 타인의 고통을 오해하고 재구성하는지를 섬세하게 보여준다.

강로사의 세계는 붕괴 속에서도 새로운 질서를 상상하려는 긴장의 시도이며, 끝을 향해 번져가는 감정의 잔여를 찬란하게 기록하는 여정이다.

Rosa Kang captures the moment when sensation loses its direction within the fissures of familiar order. Through a monochromatic sculptural language, she does not erase sensation but sharpens it, drawing viewers into heightened focus. Indistinct contours and distorted perspectives reveal the unstable structures of existence, while restrained bursts of color awaken vivid emotional flames. In her video works, self-composed music and narration interweave into a fragmented narrative, where new sensations emerge through the spaces in between.

The recurring figure of the "person with feet on fire" symbolizes the distorted gaze that consumes pain as beauty. From a distance, the figure’s movements appear light and joyful, yet up close, they reveal a desperate struggle against suffering. Kang explores this dissonance, investigating how real emotions are aestheticized and misperceived. Her work sensitively exposes how detached sympathy and distanced desire reconstruct the pain of others.

Rosa Kang's artistic world is a tense attempt to envision new orders amidst collapse, and a luminous chronicle of emotions burning brightly even as they move toward an inevitable end.
